I think if Midiman started incorporating a "fun" button on to their controllers, people might overlook the driver troubles :D

A recent article in German "DeBug" magazine suggested that a games joystick is the ideal new controller device .....

Unfortunately, I think the controllers are one of the weakest links in the live computer performer chain.

The DSP is good, latency is ok...well mostly ok.

But controllers are very limited, and also feedback (visual, audio, kinesthetic) is very limited.

Joysticks look like a nice little next step, especially if they have force feedback.

That keyboard could have a next strap added, and be played like an 80's keyboard guitar...you know, the ones that hang around your neck like a guitar but are actually a keyboard!

I would love to see Live 2.5 send midi out for certain things, like, record enabled, current clips triggered, cpu reaching peak. Maybe also send audio out, which could be send to a small speaker driver attached to an interface, so you can 'feel' a drum kick, and 'feel' where audio is. Maybe this could currently work with monitor busses.

So you can 'feel' that slots are full (moving over the slots plays the audio)

things like that.

I would love to be able to 'feel' an audio track by scrubbing over it with my finger, allowing me to play exactly the part I want, allowing phrasing, articulation and tempo variation in a performance from a single audio file, whilst looking at other musicians/ a score/ the audience.

It's a bit like sonograms (displays of the audios frequencies, instead of waveform) I think they would be Heaps more useful in Live, but obviously take a fair bit of DSP just to process. But this would allow you to look at a wave and have a good idea of what it may sound like, especially with practice. A drum loop would be pretty clear.

Basically to drive the feedback mechanisim into realtime, like an acoustic instrument. Where you can instantly correct your mistakes/ fine tune your performance. Being able to know what sound you will make, to be able to pre-hear the sound in your head.

Being able to also nudge audio is in this category, instead of the 'monitor-decide-fade to pa mix' strategy.

It all takes time, but thank you ableton for your great app. I look forward to using it for many years,

I think that's why Creative had to add "fun" to their stuff.
