Mac or PC?

Im sure this has been asked before. Im in the market for a new laptop. I can purchase a pc laptop with better specs than a mac book pro for half the price. So why does everyone say mac over pc? This computer will be a music machine only so no internet will be used with it, so im not worried about viruses or anything of that nature.

My question to all of you is why a mac over pc or vise versa?

I ask this because it will help me make my decision on what to buy. Thanks in advance with your replys.

it's common for people to start this exact thread in hopes of starting a mac vs pc flame war. it's also common for posters to abuse each other for their own amusement.

if you plan on turning on the computer and using it, get a PC. if you want to sit in a cafe and start at your reflection in the monitor for hours on end, get a mac.

The tool its not really relvant, today you can do the same on mac or in windows, windows have more adventage if rerelated to all software you can find, specially form vst side.

Mac is really more stable of any XP system, in 6 yeras i have absolutly 0 problem.
Little more of 2 month ago i start test windows 7, and really blow my mind, i stop use mac 2 weeks ago, and now i back to windows, i builded super portable monster, exactly like this in the picture.

Im very tired of notebooks, this is bigger but is really portable and super powerfull,mcan use lot of tracks at same time, effects etc etc without 0 trouble and all running on windows 7.

Windows 7 really make lot of users already switched to mac, back to widnows again, its really stable and fatser OS, the best OS in the Microsoft history.........

Wasnt try to start a Mac vs Pc war in here just trying to get peoples computer advice so I can take pro's and cons of each system and make my decision. And for the thread thing, I scrolled through a grip of pages and didnt find anything but I do admit I did not use the search function. So my bad

Apple MacBook White. I know that A LOT of forumites use one (including myself) and have no complaints. They are, for my money, slightly superior over the alu. model (if only for the FW port).

I'd go with one of them.

I doubt many Mac owners users are going to run out and buy that thing with Windows7 to replace their Macbooks and OSX.

Its super cool! didnt know you could get that good motherboards on that small format now! What is the size of this thing (centimeters if you can), and whats the weight? also how much did you have to spend on it, and was it difficult to build.

I use a $3000.00 MacBookPro and a refurbished HP laptop that can be picked up at PC Mall for $700. They are both 17" hi-res with the same processor. The differences.

MacBookPro:

Pros: Mine has FW800 with was a big reason for me to buy it. I use FW800 drives for audio and FW400 audio cards. Decent internal audio. Stable as long as Apple does not kill my 3rd party AU's again with update to the specs that sends software developers into a mad scramble to fix their instruments. Can boot off of a firewire drive and it is easy to set up a 2GB external FW800 drive as the boot drive.

Cons: Have to remove 30 screws and void my warranty if I want to upgrade my HD myself. No ability to install software on a secondary drive. Programs want to install on the primary drive. Some new MBP's have 3rd party firewire chips that interfaces do not like. New models only come with the shiny, reflective screens.

HP Windows Machine:

Pros: Much easier to upgrade HD's myself. Numeric keypad. More control when installing software. Microsoft does not usually break music software or VSTi's with Windows updates. For the price of my MacBookPro I can buy three of these HP refurbished units, or two laptops and a good audio interface.

Cons: Have to be careful not to let it get bogged down with software junk from the Internet. Newer models have devices which don't have XP drivers.

I still run Live from my MacBookPro, but when that computer dies I will not replace it with another Mac. The value is not there and Mac keeps making it harder for users to upgrade their hardware in a laptop. If I had my $3000 back I would use it to buy two Windows computers and a high end audio interface.
