[amo] b22: step recording with Computer keyboard not working

Post by violetpow1 » Sat Mar 21, 2009 2:44 pm

create empty clip
press aim
press prewiev in clip editor
mark a line in editor
press a botton on you PC keyboard -> no input in the clip
sometimes if you press the arrows and 20 times the PC keyboard you get
something

next thing is, if you mark a part in the clip and press a chord on the PC keyboard, you get if you press 4 only 3 notes
and if you press it longer the length of the notes changes endless

tested on osx 10.5.6

Which button? What you have to do is: play a note (can be from the computer keyboard if it's enabled to do so). That note you should see in the piano roll, regardless of the step recording feature.

Now, while you hold the note, you have to press the arrow right on the computer keyboard as to input the note.

Computer keyboards can only accept a few keystrokes at once, that depends on the hardware and we can't do anything about it.

Let me know, given the above, if things are broken, and which buttons or keys you are pressing.

hi,

i looked in the manual for step recording and follow the way how it should works.

Thats the way i wrote.

-i aimed the channel
-then i activate the preview button in the clip
-now i press on the computer keyboard (of course it is set to on for midi) a,s,d,f,g,h,j,k,l,q,w,e,r,t,z,u,i,o,p
-and there is no input in the clip, no notes (if i press how i say 20 times on the keys sometimes i get a note)

If it works on your computer i´m lucky, its no bug. On my mcbook it doesnt work.

Hi,

This seems unrelated to step recording, isn't it? You should, as a first step, get the MIDI notes into the clip. Aren't you able to record into a MIDI clip?

The keys are ASDFGHJK for the white notes, and WETYU for the black notes. Try recording a simple MIDI clip as a first step. Do you get the MIDI data in?

oh man, that leads to nothing.

Of course i am to be able to record a midi clip.
But I tried to record with the step recording option. For that i want you use the computer keyboard as a midi keyboard.
If it works on your computer, great.

Hi,

You say "the MIDI computer keyboard doesn't work when I arm the track and turn preview ON in a MIDI clip", so, I'm asking "does the MIDI computer keyboard works at all"? Is that leading to nothing? I don't know, but from here, it looks like it's the first question to ask.

1. Anyway, if the MIDI computer keyboard works, it means that if you arm a track, turn Preview ON in the MIDI clip, pressing one of the keys shows you the corresponding MIDI note in red in the piano roll, on the left hand side? It should.

2. From there, the first thing to test is: you should have the insertion mark set in the MIDI clip. That happens by clicking in the background of the MIDI clip, you'll see the vertical orange line blinking. Now, try pressing an arrow, right or left. Does the insertion mark move?

3. If so, and all of the above works, you should be ready to step record: press a note on the computer keyboard, the corresponding note turns red in the piano roll. Hold the note and press the arrow right. The note start is written where the insertion mark was, and each press on the arrow right extands it to the next grid line.

Sorry, but we have to be precise and to ask even the obvious, as the obvious is not necessarily obvious for everyone. Let me know what doesn't work in the steps above.
