Post by cr2004aust » Thu Mar 26, 2009 9:40 am

:? Trying to figure out a deep tech/minimal house drum rack

im stuck, was wanting to know what the attack, decay, release, velocity, pan, volume
is,& the compression so i can create a drum rack for the genre.
kicks,snares,hi hat's ect

my midi is at 4/4,1/16
swing 16,my global swing is 61
my tempo is at 126-128
my kick=c1 snare=d1 (the live 7 gm setting)

Thats pretty much the boundry that i am stuck at the moment.
(Heaps to learn)

Thanks forum,

There is no magic formula. Get some recordings of your favourite artists in the genre and start fiddling around with your own drum sounds in order to make them sound like their sounds. This will teach you a great deal about using your tools to achieve various sounds.

Try to copy their rhythm patterns, this will teach you the mechanics of good rhythms.

As for compression, learn what a compressor does inside and out. Once you read what all the control do, start experimenting with a simple setup - kick and snare, for example - and see how changing various settings affects the sound.
