warping ambient tracks - advice

warping ambient tracks is a pain if there are no percussive elements. anybody got any advice?

i found myself spending 3 days warping an old tangerine dream track. it was rather hellacious. all i can recommend is using your mind to find the imaginary beats and do it to the metrenome. sometimes you got to do it one beat at a time. its possible it might be somewhat easier with modern ambient track if it recorded with a sequencer program because then the tempo will generally be consistant. also warping isnt always neccessary with ambient tracks because there are times where they seem to flow somewhat naturally with the beats.

look at the accords (if exist)

set the markers where the accords changes ... ! hope this helps....!

you can take the number of beats (you don't have to count them all , extrapolate) , divide it by the whole length of the track to get your bpm
--> now it's just a matter of triggering the track at the right moment

ableton does this automaticly , but if the track starts/ends with silence ableton gets confused
