Sadly, this willingness to accept shoddy products and planned obsolescence is just more encouragement for computer companies to release said products.

Hey! I was that someone! This was brought up in reference to me saying just to buy a Mac when in fact I have a 2006 MBP that I can fry an egg on after about an hour of use and it froze up a couple times a day. So what did I do? Bought a new MBP like a good fanboy.
There are people running Macs far older than mine with no problems and I can still get the old one fixed under Apple Care but beyond things going out because of age you also have software developers constantly pushing the limits of what is currently out. I also consider that part of the shelf life.
But also there are far more people posting problems with brand new Vista loaded PCs than people with old Macs.
Hopefully Windows 7 will shut people like me up.

Hey! I was that someone!
I only posted that because we can smell our own

I've gone through the fanboy upgrade process too many times to count, and not until recently have I tried to be a bit more conscientious about the whole process.

^ that's funny "smell our own."
IMO the same idiot would screw up a Mac or a PC at the same rate. a large part of this equation is the thing between the chair and the keyboard causing the ID-10t errors.
not that I'm calling Beats an idiot.
I've NEVER do that.
ever.

One of the main reasons I went with Mac is because I am an idiot and don't have the time, patience, or mental capacity to fuck around with PC config. issues. Give me your most stable PC and I'll fuck it up at a dazzling speed. Hm, maybe I should shop a Vegas show based on this premise.

agreed, and my main concern about going to mac is that I'd have to learn all over again.
IIRC I haven't done a thing to my PC in 3 years to tweak it.

I'm sure there are some PCs that work great straight out of the box. You just hear about a lot more issues with them in general. But also people generally don't go on the internet simply to post "My computer rules!!" (except Mac people I guess)

i dunno about DPC spikes though, that's something you'd have to look into individually based upon your PC's components.
gotta second the thinkpad t series
i use a thinkpad t400 2.53ghz core2duo running vista
very solid laptop

This is the exact type statement that drives people to the Apple store. I don't know what the Hell that means and I don't think I want to.

I'm a new convert (I say new, I had a Mac LC520 and a powerbook 90 when it was system 6 or 7)...but yeah I totally get why there is this whole fanboy mac thing. I've used PCs for years now and they are really boring and functional. I don't think I have ever been as excited over a new computer as I am with my new macbook.
The last one (HP Pavillion) lasted 18 months before the motherboard got fried. It was on during a thunderstorm and this is an old house so it was probably that, at least that's what made the insurance company pay out, so I decided to get the macbook this time. It's just heaps better. Period.

But you can't use the free Glitch plug-in!!!! Oh the humanity!!!!
My old boss would refuse to buy new computers even though PCs are relatively inexpensive but he would constantly do "little" upgrades. So essentially he'd take a $400 computer and over the years do $1,000 in upgrades and they still wouldn't work worth shit and have constant conflicts between the upgrades. That kind of money pit approach isn't even tempting with Macs or even possible in most cases.

A) DPC spikes can and do happen on macs too
B) I gotta say I rather enjoy getting more performance, variety of options, much more flexible software options and tweakability, all at a significantly lower price. PC FTW
But thats ok, keep shelling out all your money to Apple for overpriced products. I own Apple stock and could use some cash for a new thinkpad when usb 3.0 comes out next year.

I like stuff that just works that you don't have to tweak or optimize. FTW.
And I will keep shelling out money to Apple for that stability and peace of mind.
