electrical engineer, I like my job, so it's all good. the wife is starting to forget what I look like though, I told her I'm desperate for a hair cut, she said she didn't notice. I have a fucking shrubbery up there.

McQ714 wrote:ok.. so you use a laptop for everything? a macbook pro? probably have a firewire interface? how many usb devices do you use and how many open ports do you have when you're working? if you have even one then you're an asshole for arguing just for the sake of arguing. if you have none, get a usb hub. if you're out and about making music with nothing else plugged in, then you do have room for the dongle. i think you just don't want to have to buy software. i think you have a bunch of pirated shit. if you're going to bother having the UAD2 express card plugged in then you can have a dongle plugged in... doesn't stick out any further and they have these really cool swiveling usb adapters that would pretty much make the dongle not stick out at all... i hope that's not your biggest complaint because i just solved it for you. have anymore gripes? i'd love to fix ur bitterness.

that leads me to a pet peave of mine. people that bitch and moan for no good reason! who else hates when people do that? and before i get asked to edit my comments. ask beats me to take out his STFU comment to me. totally uncalled for! i was expressing an opinion and didn't ask to be attacked for it.
My statement was in general and not aimed at you specifically.

My point is if I'm at the airport (aren't we always writing music at the airport) I don't have to have any of my external devices attached at all to still work with Live including using the keyboard to play parts. You can also do gigs that way, although a little cheesy without some kind of controller.

But you sure as fuck don't want to get to a gig or recording session, possibly far from home, and you can't perform because an easily forgettable (and breakable and losable and stealable) dongle you don't have on you.

I agree software companies need to have some kind of security implementation, but at this point in history even software that needs a dongle has been cracked and doesn't need one so all they are really doing is adding a slight annoyance to the paying customers.

This doesn't force me to get cracks. This inspires me to look at a competitor's product that doesn't need one. As an example the UAD limiters are great but so is Elephant which doesn't need one, so that is the one I am going to use more often. It's just that simple.

i don't make music much on my laptop but i guess i can see where you're coming from... if i do use my laptop it's just to jam and come up with a basic idea for a song when i'm out of town (which isn't often enough anymore) or to use virtual dj. i don't even have most of my plugs installed on my laptop at the moment. just not necessary for me i guess. never found laptops powerful enough to make music with. that's what my custom rackmount is for. sure wish it was a little quieter though. anyway, sorry for being an asshole.. no hard feelings i hope!

No worries. This place is all about people going mental. Occasionally we talk about Live. But mostly we just go mental. :)

heh - KvR forums are a fucking joke....

... no really, they're seriously funny....

populated by a combination of embittered old plugin-hoarders and naive young plugin-hoarders.... all bitching at each other so they can avoid actually making any music...

I'm pretty sure I saw someone ranting about how Massive's LFOs sound shit on there once....

... or maybe I dreamed that...

I had syncrosoft with the Korg Legacy stuff and the plugins would always pause live for several seconds when loading, checking the dongle.

Then they would often crash. So there's a problem of performance and stability, then there's the physical dongle, which would not be an issue if you could store it internally...

I had the newest versions of everything and tried reinstalling.

It's just a case of the external syncrosoft software and the dongle being things that have to be purchased, installed, and supported with no benefit to me, who always pays for his audio software.
GO VEGAN!!! - Macbook Air, Bass Station II, Some Korg shit, Live Suite, U-He, Audio Damage, Microtonic, Ohmicide, more soft stuffs, awesome controllers, euro rack modular synth,an awesome cat.

Agreed. I was going to comment, but now there is no point. Everybody kissed and made up already.
