Extracting notes from a MIDI clip into separate track

Post by skwosh » Thu Mar 19, 2009 1:39 am

I often play around with the whole range of a synth, and I reach a point where some selection of notes needs to be separated and effected differently.

I do this by duplicating the track, then removing the selection from one track and its complement from the other.

It would be good to have a way of doing this automatically.

there kind of is - you can put them together in a rack and then use the 'extract chains' feature - it will do what you are asking

Looks like that only works for Drum groups.

To clarify: I would like to extract a selection of notes from any MIDI instrument (not necessarily chained) into an identical track.

Maybe this kind of thing will be Max-scriptable...

sorry yeah, in drum racks, but you could probably work something out by duplicating the chain and putting them in a drum rack
