Windows 7
Re: Windows 7
Live 7.0.3, 7.0.6 and 7.0.14 all work fine for me on Windows 7 x64 build 7000. There was no need for me to use compatibility mode for the application.
The only side effects I've found are:
- Higher CPU utilisation with certain VST instruments than under XP or Vista (Albino/Sylenth1 mainly)
- There are significant graphics draw/render delay issues when using the Pre-release Nvidia 8xxx driver from Windows Update (installing the latest Vista x64 driver from nvidia.com cured this)
The flipside is I also use Cubase 5 x64 and it performs a lot lot faster under Windows 7 (Using WASAPI/WaveRT mode) than under Vista x64; no idea why!
Cheers, Simmo

Re: Windows 7
^ ok this concerns me, since Sylenth is my go-to synth...how much higher CPU usage are you seeing?
Re: Windows 7
Been using Windows 7 for a couple of months now. Live and Reason run perfectly. My Emu 1212m works like a charm. Haven't encountered any problems at all. As for the bloat there will be the option to remove any unwanted features during install on the released version. Looks nice and isn't a memory hog. All in all excited for the release of 7, a truly superb OS even in beta stage.
I have never used Vista, didn't see the need to change to flawed OS.
Windows 7 is everything XP was and Vista wished it was.

Re: Windows 7
I had major issues with the RME multifaceII+caradbus... was crackling up at 50%CPU... same as on Vista... and I couldn't use more than 4 outputs simultaneously in Live...
(though I could in Reaper)
I'm back on XP... and not looking back...(or forward...?!)
if I wasn't an audio dude.. I'd go with W7 ... sweet and intuitive user interface... fast and steady...(although not much more features than XP/vista)
2-3 years from now when the bugs are ironed out.. and there's some competition in the multi-touch market... is probly when I'll upgrade...

Re: Windows 7
^ I was afraid of this kind of post... real bummer, because I want to go past 4gb and have no options other than fucking MacOS.
Re: Windows 7
Not alot, 4-6% per instance depending on the number of effects/automation[s] in use. This is on a T9300 2.5Ghz Core2Duo laptop CPU.nebulae wrote:^ ok this concerns me, since Sylenth is my go-to synth...how much higher CPU usage are you seeing?
Re: Windows 7
mind you ...it was the 32bit version of W7...don't know about the 64...nebulae wrote:^ I was afraid of this kind of post... real bummer, because I want to go past 4gb and have no options other than fucking MacOS.
oh... and audio damage bigseq2 taxed 43%CPU on only 1 instance..and Live replied by coughing hairballs through my speakers...
that was the point where I decided ...fuck this..
I was bummed... but I'm over it.. I like XP..

Re: Windows 7
^ although I've never needed more than 2gb, it just feels stupid that MS can't put out an OS that can get over such a physical limit, whereas OSX has comfortably scaled for some time now.
I like XP too - everything works rock solid. But it bugs me to have to use 4gb, wasting about 800mb and still possibly run into limits down the road...

Re: Windows 7
Current issues aside, I have a lot of faith in win7. Its an irrational faith, but I look at it like this: I used win98 which worked great for awhile and then they came out with win2000 which was even more kickass. Then WinME came out, and it sucked fucking donkey ballsack and never got any better. So I stuck with win2000 for years, even after winxp came out. XP had its problems at first but eventually, it was sorted out and made 10x better than 2000 so I finally made the switch and loved it. Vista comes out, and its basically a repeat of WinME. So The pattern here is solid OS, shitty OS to make quick cash, then the next generation solid OS. Win7 is looking to be the winxp successor and is looking pretty promising already even in beta. Performance issues here and there will be sorted out, just like they were with XP. And vista, much like ME, will always be a shitty fucking mess.

Re: Windows 7
my dream is that I will be able to effortlessly switch to win7, bringing all my XP VSTS, and be able to benefit from higher RAM limits, I already have 4 gigs in my machine, and I could use the extra bump...
Re: Windows 7
Vista was a ripoff...it was released very prematurely... (in my opinion on purpose...like winME...Geezus wrote:Current issues aside, I have a lot of faith in win7. that cheap move was very transparent...and very 'free market'...
all they had to do is say it was ready...then pre sell / consign Vista to every laptop manufacturer (OEM)...buy some time... get some money...
