Novation launch biggest music product of 2009?
Re: Novation launch biggest music product of 2009?
Actually from the wording of the press clipping, I'll speculate that it really is some April Fool's thing that makes sound and is very large.

My guess is a redesigned and pumped up Remote SL Mk II. Maybe Fatar keys? Long throw faders perhaps. Am I even close?!

What a let down, this is their product of the year? Yawn.
Would be cooler if it was that 8 keys controller like h2k said.

Of all the hype so far, this little unit has attracted me the most (crap company name mind you):

I want something like a nanokey to stick in my laptop bag but the nk looks a bit rubbish. This thing looks like it might be rubbish to use in terms of a traditional keyboard but at least it looks funky and I've heard the spec is great.

Teenage Engineering is a music gear company? Wow. Ok. My first impression was that it had something to do with Facebook. But now that I know, I kinda like it.
Re: Novation launch biggest music product of 2009?
If that's Novations update, it's so weak I might considder it an April Fools joke, just for adding nothing but "bling" to the SL series. That's not going to take anything from any other manufacturer and absolutely nothing from someone in line to purchase the APC40.
Why would they keep the Right LCD UP/DOWN buttons, when removing the display? Must be a joke!
*edit* on checking Novations site on http://www.novationmusic.com/news/article=9 there is a different picture of the Zero SL, which is a totally different layout compared to the Key enabled ones. This has a very different postiion of knobs, and what seems like longer faders and then the add-on of a crossfader, now that looks much more interesting in terms of updated functions.... but still it is nowhere near revolutionary!
Specific info on the Remotes Zero SL MkII here: http://www.novationmusic.com/products/z ... i?option=1

Re: Novation launch biggest music product of 2009?
if this is true, it is exactly the opposite of revolutionary.
And i am not too sure if removing half of the displays is a step in the right direction - the displays are what makes the remote series stand out...

It's the G-20 controller. It's already starting a revolution in London.

That thing is going to cost a fortune, they make lamps that cost over $650 apparently.

Well, my fears that Novation's announcement would be boring have been confirmed! Re: Novation launch biggest music product of 2009?
Weird. I don't think it's really worth replacing an existing SL keyboard.
I guess the benefits are:
-Backlit buttons
-Better soft drum pads
-Encoders with led rings (I wonder if they are still notched or if they are nocturn style now - the latter would make it much better)
-Touch sensitive controls they display the values of whatever you're touching on the LCD.
There are a couple cool things there, but I think removing one of the LCD displays was stupid. I guess it saves cost, but still lame. The thing that makes up for that is that whatever control you touch is automatically shown on the display. Meh, whatever.
Two things would have made it perfect:
-Replace not just the top encoders with the nocturn still led ring encoders, but also the bottom dials.
-Leave the frickin' 2nd LCD screen. Fools.
