Live quitting then not opening up.....

Post by DAB03 » Thu Apr 02, 2009 5:01 am

I have had many sets quit off me several times...often these sets will take several times to open, but each time Live would close each time before actually opening it, I would open Live back up for another attempt via the desktop icon each time....BUTTT now, it seems like ever since I got my interface (edirol ua-101) once I open up a track that will almost always time out..........now Live once it closes out won't let me open right back up, I will click the Live icon, ...it will load for 5 seconds then stop loading. Only way I will be able to even load Live would be to restart my PC...very long process!! And yet I still havent opened the track I am looking to recover.....

Please help....

try renaming your VST folder (put a _ in front of the name, makes it easy to find.) it could be a plug in making Live unhappy, this is common. Live scans your plug in folder on startup. I doubt it's the sound card, they don't lead to issues like that.

other than that, rename your preferences.cfg file, that way Live starts without looking at any data on your drives.

7.0.1

I haven't used many plugins on these tracks, But when they load I can see alteverb 5/6 load...and they are probably the cause...

Wait...rename my whole plugin folder?

I'm talking about hiding stuff from Live, so that when it boots up your VSTs and whatever settings are in your preferences.cfg file are taken out of the picture.

Try updating to 7.0.14. See if that fixes your problems?

good point. 7.01 was literally unusable for me. sucked for a week or two until it was fixed.

If your computer takes a very long time to boot up, you might have other problems under the hood that are taking ram or CPU cycles away from Live.

As well as the above advice, Id download and do a full scan with a spyware app (spybot or adaware are two obvious ones), and do a full virus scan. Uninstall any programs you dont need, and download and run CC cleaner to delete cache files and keep your registry lean.

My Live XP partition boots in about 10 secs, but i have almost nothing else installed. Live is a bit of a resource pig so lean and mean is the order of the day for Live on windows.

EDIT: in view of your last comment, then its almost certain youll have spyware/viruses on your box if you dont have current checkers up to date.

/sigh...

you tried it, time to buy it. Ableton doesn't care that you're a crackhead, they just want to get you hooked. wtf else did you expect?

at least you're honest, to a point.

I have Vista...and I have been running this version for almost a year without much of a problem. Only have had internet on my pc for 2 months or so, this is a brand new PC (2 months old) 4g ram, quad dual 3.4ghz I believe...

Now that you had your trial period, the global economy needs you to stand correct and spend!
