OK, you have three sets of send effects each containing three effects tracks that feed each other.UKRuss wrote:Tom, a few queries about your midi control and routing for your effects. Genuinely interested in what you see as the benefits of how you set it up.
1. Why do you do that instead of just having all the effects on one track in a large rack?
I feel that three tracks is enough to rack up a nice array of effects, for this version of the set anyway. Also, you can use one set of three for each of the audio tracks. Track 1 could send to the first set, track 2 to the second etc....
An example is the third set, is mainly for quickly sending sounds off to, rather than constantly hitting it with audio, so it wouldn't really work in a large chain of tracks if you wanted to also do something with the beat repeat etc.
2. Do you always use dummt clips to aoutmate the effects or do you map the contrlls out to a midi controller too so you go free control with the macro knobs on the racks?
No, I use controllers when I do this, but i usually map keys on a keyboard and buttons to trigger seperate dummy clips for quick fire teching the fuck out. You will notice a lot of the dummy clips have a follow action to go back to the "no loop" clip.. handy so you can just hit a controller button, and it will do its thing, then reset it.
The way I personally have things set out is very messy and confusing.. not because it's better, but because I am lazy, so I have attempted to work everything into something anyone can understand.
3. Any insight into the combinations of effects you've picked?
Sort of.. the first two I have attempted to go REPEATER - SHORT REPEATER - CHANGE THE WAVFORM .... so the first one has a beat repeat for catching some audio, then a grain delay for adding small automated edits to the audio, then a flanger to top it off with something wacky... the second set is similar... a grain delay, then a delay/reverb combo, then a redux.
The final one is set out sort of similar, A delay, then a chain of filters for cutting off the delay tail, then a redux/reverb/compressor to mess with the end product.
Yep! Or click around on the computer, I've never been afraid to do this.. some people reckon you look like your checking your email, but that's their issue for being uninformed and ignorant (ha!)Track effects, you just map these out to a controller I guess?
I am just using the sends as a way of routing the audio, there are no effects on the send channels. Send A sends to the first set of three effects, send B to the second etc... it's easier to turn sends on and off then drop down menu > output to a new trackWhat decisions are you making about what effects are send effects and what are track effects?
