Apple rant: ipod touch 2g and firewire incompatibility
God does not want me to have an ipod touch. I lusted after one of these suckers for months, and I was continually disappointed when a series of circumstances prevented me from obtaining one. I recently purchased a newer car, and I opted to replace the built-in cd player with an SD card player instead. I also got an ipod cable interface installed, since I knew I would at some point be getting an ipod touch.
Some months pass and I finally, FINALLY get an ipod touch!!! YES!!!! I load it up with some tunes, plug it into the receiver in my car, and the fucker doesn't work. CHRIST.
IPOD TOUCH 2G IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH PREVIOUS CABLES. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! *sigh*
I'm hoping it's just a software issue and the jailbreak stuff will make it work for me. My other option is buy another fucking ipod. Any thoughts?
APPLE, you make great tools, but YOU'RE REALLY STARTING TO PISS ME OFF!!!!!

I have a similar problem with mine. Plays but won't charge. I found this, but I haven't tried one yet

AFAIK they stopped putting Firewire chipsets in the iPods about 3 years ago.

@twisted-space: Excellent! I'm not 100% sure this will do what I want yet (still researching), but thanks for a push in the right direction!
Re: Apple rant: ipod touch 2g and firewire incompatibility
It is totally ridiculous.
The only way i can charge the pod is by having it plugged into my mac, none of my speaker docs charge it, none of the normal wall charger units charge it.
Then I want a l;ittle blast of battery charge at work, I have to get the whole bloody kit out and plug the mac in and then connect the pod and blah blah.
hassle. not ease.
Which is what i was promised i tells you. I'm led to believe i walk into a shop and wave it in the air and when i get hom all the music playing ina five hundred yard radius will have ben DL'd to my mac.
(some button presses and procedures may have been omitted)
Yeah, right.

Your welcome, are you sure it won't even play in your car kit though, cos mine does, it just won't charge. Ive got a kenwood system btw.Silverfish wrote:@twisted-space: Excellent! I'm not 100% sure this will do what I want yet (still researching), but thanks for a push in the right direction!

Yeah, I tried it again last night just to make sure I wasn't being dense, and it will neither charge or play.
I'm going to take my car back to the place where I had it installed and see what they say.
I wonder if a jailbreak would help in this situation.. hmm.
