Korg nanoKontrol... A little help please...
Korg nanoKontrol... A little help please...
OK, So I'm trying to help the economy, so I bought Live 8 Suite, Korg nanoKontrol and nanoPad, not for my enjoyment, but for the global economy!
They both have Ableton Live pictures on the box and coupons inside.... But I can't for the life of me, find any templates for Live.
How do I set this thing (nanoKontrol) up for native Live support, or do I have to manually setup each control for every scene individually?
I installed the Korg midi drivers. I tried the 3 other Korg profiles in Lives drop-down midi box. But I'm not getting any transport control, and only getting control over faders-only on scene 4.
What gives? If they have coupons for Ableton that are accessed from the Ableton site, then they have obviously been working together on this.... So where do I get the nanoKontrol-Live templates?

Re: Korg nanoKontrol... A little help please...
And has anyone posted a listing, chart, or whatever for the native midi CC's for all Live devices yet, to make it easier to manually program native support?

Re: Korg nanoKontrol... A little help please...
search the search function!!
there is no native support - it's a bit sad that they couldn't find some time to put native support to the nanokontrols in Live8. I believe every second owner of live has gotten one in the last weeks.
You can do the hack with the userconfiguration.txt, then you have a reduced set of automatic assignements.

Of course I did a search, but just because there is no Official native support doesn't mean you can't have Native (default) support.pepezabala wrote:search the search function!!
I just don't want to have to re-assign all my controls every time I open Live, That's why I asked if there is a midi chart listing of the Native(default) cc or note value for the individual knobs, buttons and value boxes for the Ableton Live devices! I'm not great with midi control assignments but I could figure out how to set up my own Native (default) support if I could figure out what controls what by default.
For instance, I think someone mentioned CC's 1-8 control knobs 1-8 on instrument racks, so any controller assigned to those CC's should control the instrument racks macros natively. is this incorrect for Live?
I would like to have a listing of defaults in Live like this one I found for Reason. I was able to create my own templates with native support for my most used knobs this way.

These guys have created an application that allows native control with Live:
http://www.nativekontrol.com/nativeKONT ... oLive.html
Windows only.
Looks cool. It's only $20.
There's demo videos.
I just like using my own MIDI mapping from scratch - across the 3 templates that I've got setup. Native control for me has always been a FAIL.

I see latencies in the video for that nanoLive, I'm guessing it's because of the midi yoke translator, but it could be from him just having poor asio or whatever to begin with.
Can anyone let me know if that setup adds additional latencies?

I think nanoLive may be the best $20 I have ever spent on music equipment. If you have a nanoKontrol and Ableton Live, it is a no-brainer..

Just got an email from the company. They said latency should be unaffected, and states what I saw came either from the video tutorial program used or from the youtube video rendering. Also states there is a newer updated version from the video online and will be another new version most likely mid week for Live 8 improvements.LoopStationZebra wrote:Cool.

Here is what is in the already released, newer than video version....
(Quote) new functionality: scrolling scene up/down and tempo up/down buttons, adjustable fader range, customizable OSD and the ability to control up to 48 tracks (as opposed to 16 in the previous version).
Can't wait to see what's in 8. I'm buying right now!

fwiw, the greatest less than twenty dollars I ever spent for an app to use in conjunction with live is this:
http://nerds.de/en/loopbe1.html
It is a very simple 'virtual midi cable', much more simple than MidiYoke to set up-- and yes latency is not noticable with these things. it's pretty much like routing Midi from one track to another in Live.
For a little more you can get http://nerds.de/en/loopbe30.html which provides 30 multiple ports.
I found MidiYoke very confusing-- all I wanted was something that would show up as an input and output in Live's preferences to receive messages from another app that was interpreting HID from a virtual reality glove, and loopbe was exactly that.

It's saying that it's free for non comercial use, did you use this with nanoLive?mikemc wrote:fwiw, the greatest less than twenty dollars I ever spent for an app to use in conjunction with live is this:

The version of Midi Yoke that comes with NanoLive is included in the driver package. The only changes you have to make is in the Preferences/Midi in Ableton, and the instructions are very clear.

Re: Korg nanoKontrol... A little help please...
Hey fellas I would really appreciate it if someone could explain step by step what needs to be done in order to setup nanoKontrol with Ableton Live. Im a beginner on Ableton and never used a Midi controller before so if you guys could please explain all the essential steps to a noob like me... that would help me out so much!
I'm really surprised Korg and Ableton didn't provide proper instructions on this. I guess they are assuming most of their customers are beyond the novice stage, and know how to set things up. But apparently the Ableton/nanoKontrol duo isn't as dynamic as they advertise it to be.
Thanks for any help
