you have thought far too much about this. it's a troll post, on the internet.
next time post a picture and move on.
Right, how about this:
Me in 1980 building my first synthesizer. Yes, those are transistors, perhaps even a VTVM...

Great pic! I hope that test equipment up on the shelf was all built by you from Heath, Knight or Eico kits!
(It's fun posting stuff that under-30s will have no clue about.)
Yes: Heathkit scope behind lamp, RLC bridge, Freq Generator, PAIA Synth, Hafler amp, don't remember all the stuff I had back then.
I donated all this stuff about a decade ago to some college kids and rock groups.

I worked at a company with software so large the source code filled a whole room. The software ran in the White House, in hospitals, in city and state government's offices, etc. 24x7. Truly redundant. It really worked.
Live isn't built to those standards, but it's still a big system.
It also has this problem of being built on a Mac and still having to run on a PC... but that's their choice.
I don't work in software anymore, I don't have the stamina.
I'm happy to buy Live and let them work out the problems. I'm worth it.
Is this true? Was Live meant to run on Mac?
Does it run better on Mac?
What about like a BigMac?
It runs worse on a mac, as in less plugs, more overhead etc

whatever, show me a software company that does this.
It gets more unbelievable, though.

Notice that because I see it from a developer's point of view, I'm automatically accused of being a paid shill for Ableton

Whilst I agree with this to an extent, we all have raw economical facts governing our lives.

I totally agree here, though considering the above statement, in its present state, its usefulness is somewhat diminished.
Here's an idea, don't buy it for a month. Then try the demo, if it works then buy it. If not wait a bit longer.
they all work in then end. It's a live performance tool, therfore the company by definition is comitted to making sure it;s stable as if it craps out at a gig there are < or > 50 / 500 / 1000 etc people that are gonna go, ableton pfft, get an MPC etc

that's amazing.
Jarvisimon - you are truly an ass. what kind of arrogant prick tells a company how to do their release cycles? like you even know what you're talking about? seriously, stfu. you should be thankful those Ableton employees had that dialog with you, where you blew it was LISTENING to what they had to say.
next year do some beta testing, until then, stfu.

This was in 1978. Do you know how much hard drives costs back then - no wait, the Winchester hard drive, let alone the PC was still quite a bit away...
Actually, there
were hard drives back then. I was taking assembler classes at what was then Control Data (now Unisys) back in '74- we had a drive that'd crashed's platter sitting in our classroom. It looked like something out of the Flintstones; about 3' in diameter with a ceramic oxide coating. The scrape along it where the head inadvertently had parked itself was something to see...

As long as we reminisce, I do remember on my first job in 1972, the mainframe was a Honeywell
computer, and did have those huge washing machine drives.
I don't know if that was Winchester technology or used something else, though.
There were stories about how the CE folk would have these programs to make the tape drives hum tunes.
The story of Mel:
http://www.pbm.com/~lindahl/mel.html, along those lines, is a favorite of mine.

I'm retired.
I never go anywhere.
I'm in front of the computer all day.
I've been working on a big project.
And I'm one of those folk whose 401K is a 201K, but still, I upgraded.
No complaints.
