Post by old school user » Mon Apr 06, 2009 7:24 pm

get a beach ball and at least 30 seconds before I can hear the clip.

Any ideas to get this ironed out?

I've been dealing with this too.
I've tried installing the LP Live Pack every which way.

Some of those drum racks contain 120+ Simplers.
Naturally it will take some time to load all those samples.

If you plan to use these drums you might want to trim them down and just load the drum hits you want.

Yep, I mentioned this during beta testing, and started a similar thread, I have the same problem.
I recently also noticed on one friend's Mac and another one's PC they have shorter loading times,
strange indeed.

Hope this gets solved.

Best,
Bert

Just dragging a Latin percussion kit into any Live set takes at least 30 seconds.
Live 8, in general runs Very VERY slow. But I'm assuming that this is we should expect from a 1.0 release.

My ableton Library has always been on my 2nd internal drive so that wouldn't be a factor.

I have my library on 2 Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB 10,000 RPM drives that are stripped together in a Quad 3.0 Ghz Mac Pro with 8Gb RAM. Previewing and loading takes a good 8-10 seconds. I also have a unibody Macbook Pro 15 with a 5,400 RPM drive and it takes 13-15 seconds on there.

This might not sound like a long time but when you're flipping through kits it feels like forever and can kill your vibe. And if I preview the full Samba 2 kit and then just want to preview just the Samba 2 Agogo subset I have to wait the full 8-10 (or 13-15) seconds again because it reloads the entire kit. That's nothing but poor engineering.

The main reason I sketch out tracks in Live is because traditionally it hasn't interrupted the creative process. But Live just doesn't feel snappy like it used to. I might as well just do it all in Logic.

It would be nice to hear from Ableton on this. Either saying something like "known issue we plan to address" or "we understand it's not ideal for all users but this is the way we have implemented it and we don't plan to optimize load times".

This problem is still happening. Infact i have found that it happens with ANY drum rack.
If there is a drum rack in my project at all then any kind of time range editing takes at least 5 seconds or longer. Trying to edit, move, duplicate (etc.) any midi region on the timeline's drum rack track takes over 5 seconds. Sometimes the spinning beachball comes up.
The rest of the project will run fine but the drum rack is producing an obviously Heavy Weight on the whole thing.
