The new warp mode is fantastic, you can still do all the old buzzy timestretchy sounds.

I like to do lofi and strange sounding things so for me the old warp mode was great.

Anyway....also like the new warpmode but ableton.....please put in the old warp again so we can choose okay.

That's my point. It's not that I don't want to learn the new way, or that I can't learn the new way. It's just that I have a ton of music already warped with the old engine.

Why wouldn't they give you the option of using the old engine?

You beta testers should have said something about this months ago. Never let them delete a function for a new one. Always include the former function, at least make it available as an option.

I guess you could've made your voice heard back then yourself no?..

anyway.. in general I'm also opposed to replacing features..
however, I can fully understand they cannot offer the old and the new warping method..
it's not like they just replaced a simple button..

the old warping method still confused me till the last day I used 7..
it's so not logical.. the new method is just great and how it should've been from day 1..

I don't think it's a matter of the "engine" as such. The presentation of the warp function, while being very good for certain purposes, is very slow and confusing for other.. I have been using Live since version 2 and the way I work with warp markers is something like riding a bike, developed over years :) It's not a matter of "I don't want to learn the new way", because the new way is nothing like the "old" way and I would so love the option of having an option if I want to use the new warp function or not.

Or maybe Ableton can take the piano roll away, and replace it with a tracker view.. although .. that could actually rule quite a bit, I think others might have a small issue with it.
anyway ..

In the end, I don't hate the new warp function, I just want to have the option of using Live the way I have been using it for years.

What exactly is it that the new engine does that the old one didn't? Do your sets sound different now?

Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

I don't get the problem here. Instead of stretching the tempo-grid you stretch the waveform. Makes even more sense. And now you have the transient markers, as an added option that is actually superuseful.

The "engine" itself is the same as ever, only with some new additional options in beats mode. That are actally superfunny when used at extreme settings :-)

Honestly, I don't know. I'm downloading the Suite right now.

I'll experiment with it and then post my conclusions.

It's all good. The new warp mode is fine. All of my old sets seem to be fine, and I get the new system.

This leaves you with just 1 warp marker at the beginning.
With transients all over the place, its easy to grab one and snap it to a grid (or not).

In Live 7, you had to imagine the length of a stretched piece or read it out from the time measurements.
In Live 8 you see the actual length against the time line.
I know about that. But I find it much easier to drag a bar towards the desired point than creating a marker by double clicking.

I know that the current display method is easier to understand, because time isn't stretched. Anyway it is more difficult to handle for me. Maybe I'm the only one to adjust the timing in very fine steps, but to do so the older version was much easier.
