Problem with VESTAX VCM 600 and AbletonLive V 7.0.15
Problem with VESTAX VCM 600 and AbletonLive V 7.0.15
Hi guys,
I got myself a VESTAX VCM-600, and tried to get it running with Ableton - unfortunately without success. For some reason I can't find the VCM600 in the preferences>input as well as output. It is listed in the devices though. Any suggestions what I am doing wrong???? I am dying to use it asap - but am out of ideas at the moment.
Thank you for ur help!

Re: Problem with VESTAX VCM 600 and AbletonLive V 7.0.15
In the MIDI-Preferences for the controller you choose "Vestax VCM-600" and for input and output you choose "USB Midi Device" ... if I remember right. I am currently @work so I can't verify. But I'll check when I'm back @home if you want to !?
(I'm on windows)
My latest Live version is 7.0.14, not updated to 7.0.15 yet. Just got the Suite8 Box as well but not yet installed.
BTW: I heavily customized my VCM-600 for use with Live to achieve special individual functionality. Therefor I used Bome's Midi Translator which so far IMO is an excellent tool (and stable so far as well). If you're interested in having customized functionality as well maybe I can help you !?
(Not long ago the Midi Translator 1.7 was released which provides it's own virtual Midi Ports .. meaning you don't need something like 'Midi Yoke' (Win) anymore.
Furthermore the Midi Translator in version 1.7 is now able to handle different Midi ports in one program instance only.)

Re: Problem with VESTAX VCM 600 and AbletonLive V 7.0.15
It should be there in your in/outs at the bottom half of the preferences window but if it's not then it's a case of it not being recognized by your computer. It's name will always be listed in the devices drop down menu at the top because it is a natively supported device.bluesky wrote:Hi guys,

But yea, once you get your computer itself to recognize it then you'd see its name at the bottom and thats where you click On the remote and Track buttons if they're not clicked already. Selecting it as a device across a row of the 3 drop down menus up top will basically automap it.

Yeah, just like audiovoid explained!
BTW: Did you take a look into your manual? There it's explained in detail with having appropriate screenshots.

Re: Problem with VESTAX VCM 600 and AbletonLive V 7.0.15
Hi guys,
1st of all thanks for your replies.
Well, I am running ableton v.7.0.15 on a
Windows (XP professional, SP2) PC; Board p5Qse / chip P45; Core 2 Quad Q6600; 4gb memory; sound: m-audio delta audiophile 2496 (I know kinda sorry)
To describe my problem a little more cleary: I did hook the vcm up with my PC just like explained in the manual - did work out just fine, since I checked the system (as explained in the manual, too): SYSTEM>HARDWARE>DEVICE MANAGER. Both in "USB controllers" as well as in "sound, video and game controllers" I do actually find the vcm 600; and it says "DEVICE INSTALLED NORMALLY". According to the vcm's manual this is proof that it does function with the pc. So I figured that Ableton shoud be supposed to recognize the vcm in the "Input/Output" section) - but it doesn't. If I do select VCM600 as control surface, my choices in "Input" are:
None
MStUio2
MPU-401
Delta AP Midi (which is my soundcard)
same in "Output", but additionally:
MidiUSB (instead of MStUio2), and
Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth
I tried all different kinds of combinations, didn't work out.
Any suggestions??????? I want to use this device sooo bad...
/
What I recognized is that when I do open SYSTEM>HARDWARE>DEVICE MANAGER, it says property: (standard USB Audio); Location: >PFAD 0< (VCM 600).( german language, PFAD should be something like "Path" in english). Sounds a kind of odd to me, but might as well be ok (you tell me?!). In addition to that the "data send" LED of the vcm600 keeps being illuminated all the time once a knob/fader etc. is turned. As far as I can tell by reading the manual it should just light up while turning knobs or doing any other movement with the controllers...weird....
Please if anyone can help...PLEASE DO SO! I am out of ideas by now....
Thank you so much in advance...

Yes, DATA SEND should not light up all the time, my VCM-600 doesn't.bluesky wrote: In addition to that the "data send" LED of the vcm600 keeps being illuminated all the time once a knob/fader etc. is turned. I'll check more when I'm back at my laptop with the VCM-600 connected .........

Re: Problem with VESTAX VCM 600 and AbletonLive V 7.0.15
Yea it sounds like a funky installation to me. It's a plug and play device so no matter what it should at least show up in Lives midi prefs.
I have only experimented with the vcm600 on a mac system so I can't really say from direct experience what exactly is going on under your windows system.
What I Will say is that I have seen similar problems on my older windows systems. Particularly with the Novation SL zero.
what I would 1st recommend is that you go into device manager, find it under usb devices, and uninstall it. Then try unplugging all other usb devices from your computer before Re-Plugging (therefor reinstalling) the vcm back in. If it works, then close Live and plug in 1 (previously connected, if any) usb device at a time, firing up live afterwards to see it still shows up. This way you can see if it's some kind of a conflict with another device.
Also, if you havn't allready, try vestax support. It might take them awhile to get back but it can't hurt to have more help.
Hope you get things sorted out. That is a seriously Bad-ass controller.

@ audiovoid: YOU MADE MY DAY!!!!!
@ everyone else thx too!
Maaaaan, worked right away right after I did as you told me to. I could narrow the prob down to the LOGITECH CAM - driver....that one definately caused the trouble. Funny though those devices interfere. But....who cares! Thank you for your outstanding hints...I really appreciate it! Ok...gotta get the grooves on now BABYYY!!!!
THX again for the support!
