Removal of FADE button slows down workflow seriously!!!

Post by zeepster » Tue Apr 07, 2009 8:18 pm

First of all, i've read this discussion in the Beta forum.

Working in the arrangement view, in Live 7 i could easily switch FADE on/off for any sample using the button in clip view.
In Live 8 this is not the case anymore, the button is gone.

Please bring it back!

Now when i want to turn fade off for a sample i just dropped in the arrangement, i have to either manually set both the fades to 0, or right click the part and disable Fade in the Preferences. But that means it's disabled for every new part i drop into the arrangement.

Kicks usually need fade turned off while other less percussive sounds may have fade turned on. By removing the easy reachable fade button from the clip view in the arrangement window (easy reachable with shift+tab), Live is forcing me to do "rightclick-select-leftclick" on every part for which the fade needs to be on or off because once off, it's off for everything and vice versa.

By removing the FADE button i have to do 2 mouseclicks and a mousemovement in between. instead of a simple shift+tab and 1 mouseclick.

Or am i missing something completely obvious? In which case i'll take a burning. ;)

Can't believe i'm one of few who has problems with this!?

Is there some workaround / trick / shortcut i'm missing with regards to quickly toggling FADE on/off?

I've got the same issue.. is there any way to simply turn of the fade 100%?

I would also like to add that for me it doesn't matter if I set the fade curve to the minimum possible, it will still remove the first attack of the kick no matter what.

Agreed, I'd love to see this come back. Having to adjust the fade on all my drum hits when every other time I want Fade on really slows things down.

Not sure if this is what you mean but you can toggle it by selecting a clip, "showing fades" and right-clicking on a breakpoint.

i can't agree more…
also the fact that the button is present in the session view but gone on the arrangement view is also consistency. what a helpless design choice… ableton please bring that button back !
(the "fade" of the button should not be the same as the new "fade" and xfade anyway…)

you might have to convince me that it would be better to have two competing volume envelopes applied to the same arrangement clip

Easy, instead of making it a track based fade, use Clip volume Envelopes instead, Makes more sense to me.

I would love to be able to turn the fades off. When I cut a sample in two it adds a fade and I just dont want it there.
When I try remove it, Im left with a glitch sound where I cut. This never happened in 7!
