Yeah, get all sorts of little nuances plugins don't seem to have when you use analogue distortion/fuzz pedals.

i managed to short out my pedal and mkae some awesome sounds that only got better when i side chained them.

Let me answer the sonic academy question this way - I am very much a beginner user when it comes to Live and DAW's in general. I only have about an hour or so a week to play around with Live, so I like to maximize that time. So for me, yes it's worth it because I can learn a lot of things that I just don't have time to "figure out" for myself.

Your situation may be different. Make no mistake - it's really expensive, but it's a trade off of time vs money.
