1st midi note missing when loop recording

Post by rxguru » Mon Apr 13, 2009 12:04 pm

Hi guys, I am a noob to Ableton, but I have been reading this forum for over a year. I think that I have read about this problem somewhere on this forum before (I have been searching with no luck). I just purchased Live 8, and when I try to record a new midi loop using record quantize, the first note is missing sometimess. I think this is because my timing is off, and I played the note a little early (probably before recording actually started??). Is there any kind of pre-record or any workaround that could make sure that my first note (usually the kick) is not left out of the loop? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

No replies?? I searched the forum some more, and I found that others were having a similar problem, but with no solutions. I guess this "quantizing after the fact", is just the way it is. i will keep trying at it, but it kind of throws you off (when building drum patterns especially). Any comments or suggestions?? Other than that Live 8 is great so far. I thought I had spent too much money by going with the sSuite version, but the EIC2s are superb!!

Most likely it's a timing problem, this happens to me every now and then. What I find it my first note hits at the end instead of the beginning-just have to go in and fix manually, haven't found another solution yet myself. If you figure something out let me know! I just upgraded to suite 8 also it is amazing! I was using Live 6-I am completely blown away by 8!! What kind of tracks you making?

Seems like it does better when recording midi clips in session mode vs recording midi loops in arrangement mode (which is what I was doing. I come from a Cubase background, so the whole "session view" thing is new to me. But it works, and my partner and I think we are starting to like it :D ) Steve we do mostly hip hop and R & B, but we truly enjoy all kinds of music. Even in session view, while recording a midi clip in one of the slots, the first beat is cut off a little bit, but at least it is not "totally missing in action". If I tighten up my timing, maybe it will not bother me as much. Any who, I love Live 8 so far, and look forward to be a member of this community.Peace
