Live 8 file browser slow as molasses!
This only seems to be a problem on my computer (it works fine on my roommate's): if I have Live 8 open and I want to look up a sample on my hard drive, the browser takes a good 5 seconds or so before opening! It's like a temporary freeze or something. This also happens some times when I click to a different program or the desktop and click back into Live...huge delay before it lets me start working again. Anyone know what up?
Re: Live 8 file browser slow as molasses!
Perhaps it is analyzing the audio file?
If you don't want it to do that for your media files, go to preferences -> file folder -> create analysis files and turn it off.

well it happens when i click the icon to open the hard drive browser, once it's open and i'm previewing files there are no glitches. for the built in plugins and VST folder it also has no problem.

i'm referring to the folder icons labeled 1,2,3 on the far left (just to be clear)
Re: Live 8 file browser slow as molasses!
I don't know what that would be, but it sounds like an OS issue.

Re: Live 8 file browser slow as molasses!
I am just using Windows XP SP3 32-bit. So nobody else has experienced anything like this?
Re: Live 8 file browser slow as molasses!
Not me.
I have a huge system - many hard drives, about 3 Terabytes worth on Firewire, Sata, and USB
I use WinXp SP3 on a 3 year old dual core machine that is very fast.
I don't see any delays in the browsers.
I have 4GB of RAM, that probably helps.
There are a number of OS settings in the Registry Session manager that you can tweak - see any of the manhy performance tweak web sites specializing in Audio.

Re: Live 8 file browser slow as molasses!
I've been having similar problems - it takes 4-5 seconds to switch between file browsers. I keep my stuff on various partitions, some on local disks, some on network drives (connected via a Gigabit switch). Once I'm in, there's no delays looking through any of the drives, and there's no delay when accessing the Live or Plug-in Device browsers.
No similar problems with Live 6 or 7, so I suspect this is a bug...

Same weird delay here. System should be fast enough. Vista x64 i7 2.66, 12GB RAM, Fast HDD's Don't think it's a computer thang! Get out the bugspray.

Re: Live 8 file browser slow as molasses!
Same problem...my system would definately not seem to be the cause.
XP Pro SP3
Quad Core 3.83 Ghz
4 Gig Ram
500 Gig partitioned High Speed Hard Drives
RME Fireface 800 Interface
Very fast robust Video card/power supply
Runs everything else like lightning, ran Live 7 without a hitch. Live 8 Suite hoewever is sluggish in this browser command, 4 to 5 full seconds selecting A B, or C folders. Caused two non responsive crashes when I first loaded. Did a defrag, slimmed up the usual suspects. No crashes, but still slow load to file browser. When it loads no problem, no lag navigation through subfolders/rendering files, etc. No lag returning to ableton library at all. There are other posts suggesting Latin Percussion is a performance killer, I have no problems runnning several instances, eight plugins, 20 tracks with audio. My CPU load relatively low, rarely above 16%.
This is looking more and more like some loading glitch in the software, not OS or hardware.

Re: Live 8 file browser slow as molasses!
Just read Summer's post...totally right (and thanks!), right click, set as root, back in super fast business, although still smells like glitch if this is the work-around. Hope Ableton gets a gets a handle on it. One other thing I noticed that was odd...when I am switching applications, like going from Live 8 to this post with the previously sluggish folders open, there is a noticable delay of about 3 seconds bringing up Live on the screen again. Now Set As Root on folders...this went away too. hmmm
