I'm also having a lot of crashes. I had the dragging clips problem, but Ableton has also crashed on me while simply playing my keyboard along to tracks in the Arrangement view. These are such simple operations that I wonder how this escaped the beta-testing. I've sent four logs/als files to support already. I'd say Live 8 has crashed at least 10 times since I got it and I've only used it for a couple of projects. Very frustrating.

edit: just had to force quit *sigh*

I agree, live 8 crashes frequently, it is really disappointing, i am staying with 7 for DJ sets, also not really a fan of the new warp interface, although i could get used to it, would be nice to be able to use the old one (option?) it will be a while before I have the confidence to use 8 in a live situation

Well this piece of shhh software did it again on duplicate time and now I can't open ANY of the 14 saved versions of this project. I just get that error that there is not enough memory and to save and quit. Of course...why should I actually expect Live 8.0.1 to run on an 8 core Mac Pro with 16GB RAM..... $%#!

I have had it with this crap. This is totally unacceptable and we should be refunded our money. It takes serious balls to release something this horrific to the public. I'm totally screwed now thanks to this terrible software.

Live crashes when I drag multiple clips in Arrangement View.

Contacting customer support gets the standard: erase config files and repair disk permissions response. I think the problem is buggy software that sorely needs some updates!!!

OH MAN! I feel you. I posted nearly the same thing in another post. I have 20 versions and none will open! This is really not okay. I've calmed down a bit since the other night because I haven't touched Ableton but I truly wanted to burn this shit and throw my computer off the balcony. But I knew it was just the fault of this shady release so I didn't. Just tried to open all 20 sets again and none will open so I'm right back there with you now.

i am running 801 on an 8core mac and an old mbp....even with extremely heavy sessions
i have had no crashes. heavy sessions = 60+% cpu and over 32 audio channels.

as i said in my earlier post, my copy seemed to fix itself so maybe practice
your digital voodoo a bit more.

Exact same issues in 8.0.2. Copy random clips spanning multiple tracks = crash. Duplicate time = crash. Crashing on 2 different Macs. So frustrated with the inadequacies of Live 8 in comparison to 7.

Oh how I miss the days of Live 7 stability.... I too am experiencing this like crazy in 8.0.2. If I try to copy 8 bars of clips spanning different tracks containing clips imported from 7 sets it crashes every time. Duplicate time on that same selection and it crashes as well. New sets that do not use these clips work fine - but these are my main percussive elements and I need them in EVERY track. Will 8 ever work even half as good as 7? Maybe this is Mac specific as I have run into this on all my machines as well.

Actually if I even try to copy 8 bars of just my kick laid out in the pattern I want (brought in from Live 7 set) it crashes Live. Deleting the accompanying .asd file doesn't fix anything. Consolidating the 8 bars crashes as well. :evil:

Hi,
when draging and dropping an midi clip from
file browser to an empty space of
arrangement view , ableton 8.02 crashes.
In ableton Live 7.14 that does not happen.

I purchased yesterday the update of Ableton 8 from 7 ,
and I am disappointed about stability.
Stability is much more important than the new features
but I would trust to Ableton team :-)

Same problems here (OSX 10.5.6, mb 2,1 dual core, 4GB ram).

Tried to play such a library clip (Andromeda Kit). The first scene worked fine, the second not. I have a nice screenshot for you!

Image

I just couldn't believe it, 6 midi clips with a few effects, nothing special...

Hi Ted T.

thanks for providing the screenshot. Please clarify the problem:

Did you experience a crash after copying the clips from the second scene? (please see thread title) Or do you have playback problems (which would be a totally different issue though).

Best,

Thanks for your reply...

The problem is the cpu usage. As you see, it is beyond 95% while playing just these few clips from the shipped library project i mentioned.

Sorry though, my post would better fit in "Ableton live 8 cpu shoots way up when using instruments!" or "General Performance".

Is that a mac only problem?

Sorry to dredge up an old post, but is anyone else still suffering these problems with Live 8.1.4? I am having major issues as soon as my tracks get pretty big - the track I'm working on at the moment is almost done, but I need to alter the arrangement a bit. I can't:

* Delete time
* Duplicate time
* Insert Silence
* Delete (Normal)

So I have actually got to the point where I can't work on this track anymore since I can't do a normal delete on a section and then move all the other parts back...I'm completely stuck! Anyone else?
