Midi out to sound module then back to Audio in for recording

Post by GodIsStevePerry » Fri Apr 17, 2009 10:35 pm

Hi,

Is it possible on Live 5 to record midi then play the midi with Live, send it through midi out to a sound module then from the sound module output to a usb audio interface and have Live record the audio? I can record the midi and have it play through midi out into the sound module but when I go to record with the audio track the midi does not play. Sorry if this is confusing. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, I don't have Live 5 (started at 6), but have you tried arming both the midi track and audio track at the same time (you might have to disable exclusive arming in Live's preferences, or hold down ctrl/cmd to activate more than one track at the same time)?

It should work fine. I did exactly what you're saying with Live 5 100s of times.

Are you sure the MIDI clip is going while you're trying to record?

You're welcome - it's good to hear it worked, and that's how I used it for my external synth in Live 6 etc, but to be honest, I'm not sure if it's the best way. Nevertheless, it only wanted to send midi out when the midi track was armed. Maybe there's a different config option to avoid having to arm this, but I never found it... Anyway, it works...
