I've got to say.. I've been extremely disappointed with Depeche Mode since alan wilder left (after violator). This album I expected to dislike as much as the others but I was actually pretty impressed. Still not as great as Depeche from the early days, but a solid listen.

The album is good, "wrong" is in my opinion the best song of the album, but somehow I expected more... :?

Alan Wilder left after Songs Of Faith and Devotion. If you listen to all his Recoil work since he left, he's not done anything terribly different since. It all sounds very similar. Still good, but not great. I'm really looking forward to the new Depeche. I've been a huge fan since '83 Construction time again.

thracks is right, Wilder left the band after the finishing the faith and devotion tour. Since then, the songs lack catchyness. I have to listen to the album a few more times. So far i like the sound design very much, it's very analoge and saturated, really my cup of tea...

I have not heard there new album yet. There last 3 albums have not been up to par with what they have done in the past. I like Ultra though. Its one of my favorite albums by them, and they made it without Alan Wilder. I even saw them live when they were on tour for Ultra, it was a good concert.

I love this Album, but be careful you must listen to it a few times to enjoy !

First track In Chains is my favourite one.

In Sympathy and Peace are great too.

Agreed. I'm done with Depeche Mode. They're off my list.

I'd say Violator was decent (with the standout "Enjoy the Silence"), and Faith & Devotion was interesting. But Black Celebration was clearly their best work, and nothing else has come close. The last few records have really sucked. I can't even stand to listen to Gahan's voice any more. Makes me want to hit a pretentious pretty boy.

I agree it definitely takes a few listens but I am really enjoying it now.
This album is quite catchy IMHO and worth more than one listen.
Better than the last Album overall IMHO also.
Gahan has put in a fantastic vocal performance on this Album too.
I think quite a few of these tracks will really take on a life of there own when performed live.
They have IMHO always been a great live act (seen them several times).
In all honesty I can't say there is an album of theres I "hate", though I still think Violator is overly revered by many and the same goes for SOFAD.
That said Exciter had some really nice tracks on it in hindsight too IMHO - Good Night Lovers, Freelove, Dream On etc .....
I prefer this too Playing the Angel and even Ultra IMHO.
Not to shabby methinks for a bunch of old farts like myself.

Good Night Lovers, Freelove, and Dream On were on the Exciter album, not to be confused with Violater.

That was a rather embarrassing typo for someone who is old enough to remember when Just Can't Get Enough was first released (was in my teens).

Liking it so far.

Nothing will ever beat Violator though.

Black Celebration I do not find pleasant to listen to. I've pretty much liked everything since.
