Post by Dan Dare » Wed Sep 17, 2008 12:44 pm

Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone has the M-Audio Profire 2626 and what it's been like for them. Latency sound quality etc...

Cheers.

profire 2626

Post by max2f » Wed Sep 17, 2008 2:43 pm

hi

i got the maudio profire 2626 2 weeks ago and it works without any problems so far. and as far as i can tell, its really worth to buy. at least for me. i havent connected it to another adat interface however. i also did some research before i bought it, because i read a lot good about it. and i just can confirm that. it even worked right away.

of course it might not have same sound quality as rme but its 300 euro cheaper and still totally satisfying for my home studio/band recording etc.

btw i didnt go for the presonus because it has no adat and i think it wouldnt give you the same quality - without having it tested. if you would not need adat maybe someone who has tested both can help you.

cheers
max

edit: i just saw you work with the ptmp so presonus doesnt seem to be an option anyway

Hey thanks for the reply. Yes one of main the reasons it's so attractive for me is the PT option.

Do you use a mac?

Thanks again.

I've got one and I absolutely love it! Latency is pretty normal for firewire interfaces. About 4½ ms at 128 samples buffer on both the input and output. Sound quality is awesome and it's a very solid build of an interface. Pretty worth it especially if you also want to use it with Pro Tools.

yes i'm on a macbook. with os x 10.5.4 running.

i heard in a test they measured latency about 3 ms but i never actually seen a copy of the test nor am i interested in. as i said it surely works for me and also gives me some advanced options i might need in the future or will find quite pratical.

damn i hate this kind of thing in europe everythings just much more expensive

i paid like 860$ for mine its still cheap but they just rip us off!!! same goes for macbook. same goes even for live. i hate this soooo much. any ideas how to avoid this without simply moving to the us etc?? problem when i buy it over the internet: they have to send it over the ocean, and once in europe they have those lousy controlls where the package is opened and you will end up at the same price...

Is that USD? Even so, it's not bad. You can get one here in Aus from the store for more than that, more like $950 AU. If you chose to go ebay then you can get one for much cheaper, free postage but probably a void warranty in your territory. It also takes at least a week to ship. Then if there's a problem your up for the shipping cost yourself.

I have been in this dilemma wondering which way to go, I think I'm just going to cough up the extra at the store as I need it a.s.a.p for a gig.

Hey Guys,

So things have been pretty good with the Profire until I tried to use a higher sample rate than 44.1. The Control Panel hangs and the GUI is just a white box.

Anyone tried using this it under OSX 10.5.6 with high sample rates?

i tried all sample rates with osx 10.5 i think last time i tried them it wasnt exactly 10.5.6 more like 10.5.2. they worked properly. for latency reasons i dont use them...

I have one, love it. I have used it with ADAT connected to a yamaha 01v96 sound board. it was my first adat experience and it took me a sec to figure out how to do it properly, but once i got it rolling it worked like a charm! I use it both with a pc laptop and a mac mini (just put osx 10.5.6 on though, so i can't tell you anything there). Easy to learn, but like anything it'll take a few weeks to get used to the control interface.

I've got a ProFire 2626 as well. I love it; latency is decent, the virtual mixer is really useful.
