does anybody know how to delete a clip with midi control?

Post by taylortronic » Tue Feb 24, 2009 6:55 pm

hi, i'm making midi loops live on the fly... my only problem is, after i've made a loop i have to find a way to delete it if i want to make another one. i'm hoping there's a way to map midi control over emptying a clip slot just like i can launch clip recording by mapping a midi note to that function.

Not an expert by any means mate but I think as it's a right click function to delete (or hit delete) midi might not cut it.

Can you not just create another midi clips as a follow on action so at least you not losing the flow of your recording?

you can use a midi > keystroke app such as Bomes Midi Translator (i think that one is pc only) to map a midi key to the delete button.

If you're creating loops on the fly I take it you have a controller of some sort.

I use a few pad controllers to build loops, when things go wrong, the the pad selects the clip and then I hit the delete key on my macbook and it's gone. It's usually the last clip I created that I want to delete so then just hit delete on the keyboard. The last selected clip is deleted.

If you don't want to do that then just use a midi translator of some sort.

So is this impossible by LIVE itself ?

I use a lot of MACKIE control codes on both my Novation Nocturn and FCB1010 but I don't know the code to delete a clip ?

Does anyone know if there is one ?

I use the keyboard extensively too but I'm never certain which part of LIVE currently has the focus and mary times I've deleted sceanes, racks, devices etc by mistake

- THEREFORE it would be very nice to have a MIDI delete clip funtion

Does anybody know if you can delete a clip or scene on the APC40 ?

Why stop with delete? Live could incorporate all key functions into its midi map and allow you to chain them into macros.

Sorry, bit of wishful thinking - I use midistroke with my FCB1010 for live looping I set a switch to perform 'undo'.

Hi Jimmy, do you need ControlAID as well in order to use midiStroke as you describe? i.e. Does midiStroke "eat up" all incoming MIDI, or can one still play midi instruments in Live as well?

hi i searched for this too and havent found any way to do it apart from midistroke/bomes..BUT if you put your controller in live as "mackie control emu" and assign say a pad (in my setup it is on a trigger finger) to chan.1, note E4 ...that is the Undo function. The only downturn is that you've got to be careful as it only deletes the last thing you did, so if you just recorded a clip and press the undo pad two times..the clip's gone!but if you have in the meantime tweaked a knob, the first press will undo that movement..but its relatively easy to get worked with, and doesn't need any other sw in the background..i'm on a *medieval* laptop right now so for me this is a plus :)

Hi yes sorry I forgot to mention I use the Mackie control numbers for that.

I also use Midistroke for navigation and play midi instruments and there is no conflict.

All seems a bit 'workaroundy' doesn't it ?
