the knobs on the akai controllers are not detented, which means they don't click like on axiom controllers or novation's remote sl's(a huge plus for me),and they have good spacing between them, faders are really good as well, but the pads on the MPK's are the worst i ever tested:squishy as hell, the axiom's are much better
put those akai knobs and faders(with the spacing),the padkontrol's pads and the axiom's keys, along with automap 3(or another intelligent protocol) and lcd screens(for visual feedback) on a controller, and it's perfect in my opinion.
where's my APC-40?they told me mid June yesterday..........NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
hope that helps!
Yeah I ended up selling my mpk on ebay. The main reason I bought it was because it seemed to be an all in one solution, but the pads on that thing, are you kidding me ! A company that built there name off that very thing. So I'm sticking with my beloved mpd24 and soon to arrive kx25- which for some reason I'm really syked about, just have a good feeling about this board......

I'm surprised to hear negative feedback on the Akai MPK series.
I assumed the pads and knobs would be the best because, well, it's Akai. Comparing the pricing (Axiom 25 $180.00, MPK 25, $400) is assumed the Akai would be a better build quality. A lot of assuming going on!
I can save some $$$ going with the Axiom. Now I'm feeling the OP, this is confusing!

Re: Axiom 25 (the knobs)
It's been a while since I tried using the knobs on my Axiom 61, but I seem to recall there being a problem with how the knobs behaved in Live - i.e. you couldn't e.g. do a proper filter sweep. On my BCR2000 I can easily go from 0 to 127 in one motion, but on the Axiom, it's not physically possible; when I've turned the knob as fas as I can, I still have to go back, "re-grab" the knob and turn it again, in order to get all the way to 127.
Adjusting the curves or whatever on the Axiom itself with Enigma doesn't help, so I'm wondering if anything has changed in this respect? Anyone satisfied with the way the knobs work in Live? I keep thinking of replacing my Oxygen 8v2 with an Axiom 25, but I keep coming back to "oh, that's right... the knobs! Bugger..."

Well so far not so good. I can't seem to get the board to be recognized. I installed / uninstalled / reinstalled the drivers but no luck. Tried a different usb port as well and installed the drivers for that that one but still no go. Went to the yamaha site thinking maybe there was an update, nope

Would picking up a midi cable and hooking it up that way possibly make a difference ??? or that wouldn't matter at all....
