I just got my Novation Nocturn in the mail. I installed automap and plugged in the Nocturn. I set it up in the MIDI prefs for Live. When I turn knobs I can see that Live is getting MIDI signal because of that little light in the upper right of the Live window... but for some reason I cannot bind anything to the controls.
I've tried pressing the learn button and hovering over a control and turning/touching a knob.
Tried pressing the learn and midi bind button and doing the same.
Tried midi button and doing it without learn.

dude, your midi settings are totally messed up ...
0.) RTFM
1.) delete all your settings made in the control surface area
2.) sync is totally wrong for the nocturn (sync is there to send or receive midi clock for example over a specified midi interface - switch the sync buttons off!)
3.) in the automap client set a MIDI input and output port to automap midi
4.) acitvate a midi channel in the automap settings
5.) select the new midi control map
6.) enable the automap midi port as remote input and output in live
7.) enable lives midi learn mode and do your mapping
8.) have fun

I thought sync was strange I just set it up like novations site says.
I'll delete them again but I tried that.
I have midi setup in automap like you said.
In fact, other than sync everything is set up like you said. I tried it without sync too.
Any other ideas? I did RTFM and I think that might actually be the issue haha. Why would Live see the midi signal and not bind midi controls?

Alright, I got it to work. Not sure what I did.
Here's my next question.
I want the crossfader to work no matter what page I am on. Right now I can only assign one midi cc# to the crossfader in Live. Is there a way to make sure the crossfader is the same channel and midi cc# no matter what page etc I have selected in automap?

Sorry, I misspoke. I think i'm talking about 'scenes' instead of 'pages.'
I can do that over pages, but each thing "user / fx / inst / mixer" seems to not be able to use the same midi channel

that because the other things aren't using midi, they are using the automap software to communicate directly with the wrapped plugins.

Is there a way around it?

Alright, new issue.
When I turn a knob that changes EQThree on audio track 1, it changes Live's focus to audio filters on track 2.

not wishing to sound rude, but you may want to familiarize yourself with the video tutorials featured on the Novation website - they're really informative. I'd also suggest reading up on MIDI in the excellent Live manual - if the manual seems to daunting, maybe search the PDF that comes with the application using keywords. This should help you configure everything to your tastes.
Teach a man to fish and all that.
Best of luck.

Not rude at all. I'll read all that stuff. I just assumed that something like focusing on the opposite tracks audio filters when you change a filter is something that wouldn't be covered.
Thanks for the help everyone.

Alright, well, I read the MIDI section of the manual. It doesn't say anywhere anything about mapping multiple midi controls to a single Live item (like the crossfader).
I was thinking it would be nice if there was a way to intercept midi signals from my Nocturn and convert channel 1:CC16, 2:CC16, 3:CC16 all into 1:CC16.
Or figure out a way to map three different midi controls to Lives crossfader.
