New Warping

Post by joeyfivecents » Mon Apr 20, 2009 2:08 am

I can't even begin to get close to describing how happy I am with the new warping. Holy crap!!! This is what I've been waiting for since Live 4. This was worth the price of upgrading all those years. I can actually warp an entire track now. Some of you may find this silly but to me it is a revelation. Another thumbs up to the Abes. Thank you so much!

Yup, I'm right there with ya. Insert and delete Transient Markers ANYWHERE you want!
Amazing control. Very exciting to be using this ability. Not to mention the improved elastique pro(Complex Pro) warping algorithm.

I totally agree, it's wicked. This new method makes so much more sense and is much clearer than before. Love it.

i think its great also. i can just record some sloppy guitar playing with no metronome or drum beat and fix it later.
its such a time saver.

maybe i'm doing something wrong here? i HATE the new warping...granted, i'm talking about for djing....in the studio, sure, it's great, but for djing i can't get my tracks to warp right half the time, and when i can get 'em right it takes five times as long as it did with version 7.

Have you watched this?

The Shift and Control tricks make it a joy to use. With that, I can pretty much warp a whole track for DJing with as little as 3 warp markers.

as a matter of fact, after ten days of trying to figure it out on a demo version, i've decided NOT to upgrade. maybe in version 9 they'll include an option to warp the old way, but i'll be damned if i'm gonna pay good money for 8 when all it's done for ten days is piss me off.

Unfortunately I'm feeling the same way. I've been trying for the last week with the demo and watched the tutorial several times but having warped several thousand tracks the old way I'm just not getting the new method.

I'm starting to feel like this is a deal breaker for me upgrading as it's frustrating me big time.

for playing out.. i cant see myself moving away from Live 7 anytime in a hurry thats for sure.

warping in live 7 for me was as innate as beatmatching is for seasoned DJ's on decks.

theres a reason why people have been using Pioneer CDJ1000's from day 1 and havent jumped ship.. . . its because if u could mix on an old pioneer 1000 you can definately mix with a new model one.

sure they added other tools and better sound quality, but they didnt fundamentally change the interface. i cant fathom why ableton dont realise how big a deal this is for many users,

It takes me around 10 seconds to warp a track for djing using Live 8 which is around the same it took using live 7.
Live 8's warping definitely gives you more control and once you get your head around it there is no going back.

About 10 minutes to adjust from old to new method, after which it's just as quick for me.

i never could work the old warping very easily and thus didn't spend the time probably necessary to master it. for whatever reason, the new one is butter for me. i just love it. i immediately "got it". i'm not using it as a Live DJ though, so I can't compare in that respect.

I was under the impression that some features would be totally unworkable with the old method. Transient mode on beats is the obvious one, but maybe also the new groove system as well? In which case, it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. You can't stand in the way of progress.

Anyway, for people used to the old way of doing things, isn't it possible to simply use an older version of live to do your track warping and import into live 8? Not much use to people who need to warp during a set, granted.
