Ridiculous, I know, but I just plug the audio out to audio in. My old emu sound card could do it in the software mixer, but it seems not with with the firebox.

i just discovered this:
if you're using safari, when the video is loading go to activity window, double click on the active download and it will start downloading.
then you can load the flash file in your favorite flv player app and pipe audio to live like you would any other non-vst/au progam (i use jack os x).
???

why not just pipe directly from the browser?

Soundflower is a free program. Install it, open Live and when you open Soundflower you can set your incoming audio (Youtube/whatever) and outcoming audio (Live). That easy.

Also the Cosmopod add-on for Safari will allow you to download any type video from any site and it will also convert it and when it's done converting it will bring up a tag window where you can label whatever you want and then it throws it in your itunes library.

I have yet to find a site it doesn't work on.

1) Download Soundflower here: http://www.cycling74.com/products/soundflower
2) Open system preferences on your mac->choose sound->choose soundflower as your output
3) Open Ableton, choose soundflower as your audio input, arm individual track recording tracks (ext 1/2), start recording on the master track
4) start youtube video and you should see the audio being recorded into Live.

for those with newer mobos, you probably have a spdif out. i use that as my main audio out as opposed to my audio interface for general OS stuff (i.e. web surfing, games, dvd video, etc.). but the way i do it is i've got that spdif connection running back into my interface (actually through a digital mixer first, but that doesn't matter). and then i can record anything i want into Live (i.e. audio clips, streams, audio from disks, etc.). get the idea? just run a cable from your mobos main sound outputs to your interface inputs. there's also a software program called "virtual audio cable", which does the same kind of thing internally. i think you have to pay for that though!

I'm using Soundflower for this kind of thing - very easy to set up as stated above.
