Im a beginner on Ableton and never used a Midi controller before so if you guys could please explain all the essential steps to a noob like me... that would help me out so much! :|

I'm really surprised Korg and Ableton didn't provide proper instructions on this. I guess they are assuming most of their customers are beyond the novice stage, and know how to set things up. But apparently the Ableton/nanoKontrol duo isn't as dynamic as they advertise it to be.

Thanks for any help
OK, as a novice I would use the nanokontrol in it's most easy way.

plug in the nano knotrol
Hit the midi-learn knob in live to get into midi-assign-mode.
click on a fader in live .
move a fader on the nanokontrol
hit the midi-learn knob again to get out of midi-assign-mode.

Now you have assigned a fader on the nanokontrol to a fader in live. Move it. Works?

thanks for the suggestion. i tried what you said but unfortunately it didn't work. perhaps i cannot assign midi controls using ableton live lite 7 (m-audio enhanced)? on the other hand if that was the case i wouldn't even have the option to trigger the midi assignments - which i can indeed do. perhaps it has something to do with my midi settings? here is a screen shot to show you how i have things.

yes, enable "remote". Did you really read the manual?

for the korg yes but for ableton i went through tutorials and didn't see anything specifically related to this... although i could have easily overlooked it. i'll be the first to admit i suck with manuals. i prefer interacting on forums if possible. thanks for the help - it works! im sure ill be back with more questions later.

Get nativeKONTROL Live from http://www.nativekontrol.com/. It is definitely worth the money! Install, start Live, there you go! No patch creation or MIDI control stuff. I love it!
