How is that possible? The main selling point of the APC40 is the clip launching grid with multi color visual feedback. If you got the BCR to emulate everything but that part on the APC40 then it still isn't close to the APC40 and is more like a Mackie MCU sans the LCD displays. Am I wrong?mazmith wrote:![]()
i programmed mine to emulate the apc40 (almost) i handle production and performance, mainly using this piece with midistroke.

Which DrumKat? They're still making most of 'em.TRS80 wrote:Right now I use an old Kurzweil K2000 and an out-of-production DrumKat.

I'm in a similar situation, got a gig on the 3rd and no controller for Live and got no idea what to go for!
Re: Whats your favourite Midi-Controller for Ableton Live ?
i have the bcr set to be able to scroll up/down thru scenes, launch/stop clips in tracks 1-8, volumes, views, rec, sends, mutes, solos, and instant mapping/device control. where it differs from the apc, i have view of 1 scene at a time (not 5) and i can see if clips are playing or stopped (not whether the slot has a clip or not) i also have it set for almost mouse free dj'ing. the only time i need the mouse is to move the track into the channel. browser/session focus and navigation are achieved with midistroke. i also have loop point controls mapped.

Native Instruments Maschine

It has the APC-like clip matrix launcher mode for Live, step sequencer, mouse-less operation, record automation in Maschine's own session view, and even use it to trigger Live devices like Drum Racks with velocity sensitive pads.

Interesting and cool. I can't wrap my head around those things. I just want my controller to work as seen on TV.mazmith wrote:i have the bcr set to be able to scroll up/down thru scenes, launch/stop clips in tracks 1-8, volumes, views, rec, sends, mutes, solos, and instant mapping/device control. where it differs from the apc, i have view of 1 scene at a time (not 5) and i can see if clips are playing or stopped (not whether the slot has a clip or not) i also have it set for almost mouse free dj'ing. the only time i need the mouse is to move the track into the channel. browser/session focus and navigation are achieved with midistroke. i also have loop point controls mapped.

E-MU XL-7 and Korg PadKontrol. It's an excellent combo. XL-7 was no longer being used as a sound source/sequencer but it makes for a brilliant controller. By default, I have it controlling volume, pan, 3 sends, compressor, 4 band EQ, Filter and distortion on each of 16 channels; transport/solo/mute/arm/undo/commit for Live and Guru; send FX params; and scene selection/launch. Having said that, I just plopped down my cash at Guitar Center this morning for an APC40 ... sucker for pretty new toys.

That vid changed my mind about the Machine!Native Instruments Maschine

also recommend the korg kontrol pad. exelent for many reasons! Editor is great, size is perfect for backpack and it fits in almost any stuffed bag, it will fit on your desk in front of your qverty keyboard in most cases, its cheep to!
Im not to happy about my remote zero anymore.. its just to big to drag around when gigin, and first row of knobs aint smood at all, they move in steps. Also my bcr2000 is rather large, or fat! Fat, thats the problem with both of them. I have to leave out other gear if I bring one them. Each of them take as much space as 9 korg nanos!

MPD-24 is still the champ for me, even with all the fancy newness coming out.

NI Maschine vs APC 40 ?
No Crossfader at Maschine ? I think that APC can controll a Device like Traktor Pro better than Maschine, all you need is a Midi - Template for Traktor Pro !!! (and other Dj Applications like Decadance usw...).
But the new Vestax TR 1 has no crossfader anymore ? (It`s a Controller especially for Traktor Pro). It can Controll 4 Decks.....
that´s the Question, do i need a Crossfader if i a Laptop Dj ?
I am a little bit Confused about the latest Products like Maschine and the Vestax TR-1 !!!

also on a sidenote, I've really been eying those mixers like the ecler nuo 4, the a+h xone and the pioneer 800's that are dedicated audio mixers, plus allow all the knobs to be midi assigned and are switchable er track. I could give a fuck about the built in effects as I prefer my analog fx and/ or plugins. I do a mix of hardware and software and always flounder between one of those verses just a plain ol' midi controller, a 2 channel dj mixer and my motu ultralite....
sorry, OT.

Production:

x two
DJ:

Unfortunately, both are out of production, so it's catch as catch can.
The APC40 does look nice. I also still want to check out the BCR2000.

Re: Whats your favourite Midi-Controller for Ableton Live ?
I'm using live mostly as a DAW, but portablity and compactness are important for me.
For this, I use the Korg nanoKontrol/nanoLive for DAW control, the nanoKey to trigger clips, and an extra 10-key pad for navigation.
nanoLive is just GREAT for using nanoKontrol (similar programs exist for padKontrol and the MPD-32.
Check out http://www.nativekontrol.com
Best $20 I've ever spent on software.....

Re: Whats your favourite Midi-Controller for Ableton Live ?
I'm no DJ so my opinion is irrelevant, but at the moment my budget set up is a Korg nanKONTROl and a M-Audio Axiom 25. They do what I need them to do, THEY WORK, and they were cheap.
I'd like to get an APC-40 and a Lemur. BUT....MAY will be really expensive, mother's day(my mom, my wife's mom, and my wife's sister who is a new mom), first year anniversary, and a very close friend's wedding(which in Japan it's customary to give a couple $300 when you go to their wedding. FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU
