EMI 2|6 Setup

Post by neuron132 » Thu Apr 23, 2009 5:54 pm

Has anyone successfully configured Ableton for multi-channel output with the 2|6? If so, any pointer would be appreciated. I am running Mac OS X. I have installed the drivers, but I still see only 2 channel output as an option in Preferences.

Thanks in advance,

-Ron

Are you using it in 24 bit mode? That only has two outs.

I trust you've remembered to enable the additional outs in Live's preferences?

I don't think 24 bit mode is active. There is no light above the "24 bit" label. I am not sure how to enable additional outs. I cannot see this option in audio prefernces.

Do you see buttons labelled Input Config and Output Config in the Audio tab of the preferences?

I see them, but they just have
1 (mono) & 2 (mono) or
1/2 (stereo)

Incidentally, the only options for the emagic in audio input device and output device are 2 in 0 out and 0 in 2 out.

Thanks for following up with me on this.

Hm. Sad to say I'm all out of ideas. Except... What's the Audio MIDI Setup application say? You might actually have to set it to 6 channels there. I don't remember, it's been a while since I used my 2/6 with a Mac.

There´s a similar (rather old) thread here:

System Preferences has an icon for Audio, but nothing on MIDI. There is an option to select the Emagic as the input or output device, but no options for multichannel operation.

What multichannel soundcards are other people using with Ableton?

Audio MIDI Setup is not in the System Preferences, it's an application in itself.

I don't seems to have an audio MIDI application, which is weird, as it sounds like something built in to the OS.

There is an Audio MIDI tab in Garage Band preferences, but no multi-channel options there, just system setting or Emagic as device options.

The Audio/MIDI setup is an application and you can find it in your
applications/utilities directory.

That did it. I'm stylin' now. Aside from the complexity of Live, part of my problem is that I'm also new to Macs.

Best,

Sorry, I'm stuck again. In the Mac OS X Audio MIDI setup screen, I cannot seem to activate the 6 channel output. I have tried speaker setup as hexagonal and quadrophonic, but the 6 channels are muted and grayed out in the Audio Output section. I have settings at 44KHz, 6ch-16 bit.

Ableton does not recognize the EMI as multichannel.
