in Live 8 there is a "make french house bass" button next to the "make music like tiesto" button...

If you dont have that button, then it looks like you have to upgrade.

oh shit, they implemented it... I'm still on 6, but don't need da button cause I'm already french ;)

you can also browse google to find french_sound_master_plug_vst_au_1.5.1.zip, but it's hard to find and not already totally stable.

Hm, why does everybody always answer "sidechain"? I thought that was Sawtooth Benassi? ;)

In order to do an authentic Fred Falke/Alan Braxe/Daft Punk bassline you need, well, a bass.

yes dom,

and to be precise, I don't think original poster and followers are right in saying this is "french style house"... (because it isn't , is it?), and that's why everybody jumps in to say "sidechain sidechain!!" (I did it first but edited my post after having youtubed the 2 mentionned tracks and realised there was no pumping effect or any daft punk here but the disco bass, and that all artists mentionned were, eh, not french  )

 isn't it just a "realist disco style bass line" that is searched for??

cheers

Oh, come on! That should be a free upgrade to us non-French. They have an unfair advantage, what with their natural inclination, and all!

Yepp, this is what they adopted for their style: Disco/Funk basslines.

It may help if your father was a diso etc. producer during the 70s:

I totally agree with you sporkles,

but i fact it has nothing to do with genetics or french "culture",

in fact it has to deal with our electricity provider, Electricité De France, EDF, that has a special way to make electricity, that is somehow related to our cheese and wine fabrics, don't ask me how, I just don't know, EDF keeps it totally secret.

So EDF supplies a fat and creamy, sometimes a bit stinky when it gets old, tasty electricity that makes special this particular "french touch".

No special studio trick, just cheese in the cables!

I meant something more like this :

Image

(good for creamy 100% fat bass)

or that, more for the stinky part of the pumping daft effect :

Image

and for the sidechain compressor you can have this :

Image
you can clearly see it's a multi-channel, multi-layer analog cheese console. The sidechain effect is made with a quick push on one layer on the right or left side, that will make each cheese-clip move on next slot, resulting in this so fashion pumping effect, happening when the last cheese-clip falls onto the ground: "oooooompshhhhlurk".

Nice analog gear!

omg that makes me hungry, guess I'll grab a good bottle of wine and have a french-touch cheese party with my girl tonight!

cheers

Being from the oldskool I remember when your standard analog chese console wasn't so compact!!! 8O

Ahaaaaa! Finally, a Frenchie spills it! Well, now that monstrejumo has given the game away, I predict we'll be seeing a
shift in thread titles here, from "How to make French bass" to "how to make French electricity"!

naaaah, some people knew it, like, eeeh, deadmau5 ! he even named one of his best tracks "The Reward is More Cheese".... (deadmau5 & Jelo). I bet he orders lots of macbook batteries directly from france, and only works on heavy french electricity fueled batteries... that's expensive... but you got what you pay for. analog cheesytricity can't be cheap.
