Having problems Using Nanopad with Impulse
Having problems Using Nanopad with Impulse
Hi All,
So I was going through the "create a beat" lesson (and yes, I am a noob with Live and Midi so please forgive me if this has been asked before but I can't seem to find the answer) and as I followed the step-by-step instruction of loading the "ballad" under the Live Devices/Instruments/Impulse folder, I cannot make my Korg Nanopad play the drum kit?
I can see the Midi signal...When I load a regular drum kit (not impulse), it works fine. And I am able to manually map and launch clips but I am unable to use the NanoPad with Impulse.
Any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
Carlo

Re: Having problems Using Nanopad with Impulse
You need to reprogramme your nanopad to send the correct midi ntoes to trigger the impulse pads.
Re: Having problems Using Nanopad with Impulse
sounds like you're in the wrong octave
Re: Having problems Using Nanopad with Impulse
Impulse is C3 to C4, white keys only..
Re: Having problems Using Nanopad with Impulse
You can reprogram your nanoPad to send impulse notes, or you can download this free rack and insert it into your chain
http://www.utenzil.com/livesets/nanoPad2Impulse.adg
it will remap the pads to something more useful.

Re: Having problems Using Nanopad with Impulse
Thanks all to the fast replies!
. I appreciate it.
Ok, so from what I just learned, I will have to reprogram my nanopad using the Kontrol Editor (I assume)? I have learned that I will need to assign keys c3 on to the pads I wish to use? Is that correct?
I just also realized that if I switch "scenes", I get most of the kit on "scene 2". But the sounds are spaced out on the nanopad.
@mikemc: I am using a mac with OS X. Where do I install this file after I download it? Would it work on my PC as well?
Lastly, if I re-configure my Nanopad for Live, or download that file as mikemc suggested, would that affect my nanopad config with other software such as serato scratch live? Or does it go back to default and only Ableton Live would remember the new "presets"?
Many thanks again for the fast responses all.

Re: Having problems Using Nanopad with Impulse
This sounds silly, but can anyone give me an example on how to map and reconfigure my nanopad with the impulse drum kits so that i can assign the pad of my choice with the instrument of my choice? ie. Pad 1 = Kick....
I think I'm doing something wrong and I'm more of a visual type learner at times..
Thanks in advance.

Re: Having problems Using Nanopad with Impulse
The question about mac OSX, y'know, I dunno. I am fairly sure the .adg files are cross platform, but I only use PC and this was made on a PC so i know it works there. Download it and give it a try and let us knowdme3o wrote:

The .adg file an ableton device group file (not a rack per se) and it would go in your midi effects presets assortment in your library. You'll need to look at your prefs and it would be good to look at the manual regarding device groups.
If you reprogram your nanopad, it will affect the notes it sends and thus it will affect what else you do with it. If you use the plugins to transpose and remap notes, then it does not affect what the nanopad sends, because it transforms the output after it is received. Mainly what the device gruop does is use a pitch plug and a scale plug to remap the notes from the nanopad.
