FIREWIRE AUDIO IS THE PROBLEM!!!!!

Exactly.
I had my powerbook 1.5 GHZ +Motu 828mk2 (firewire) with live4,
and it glitched so randomly like once every hour.
Just like the people are talking about it in the forums.
And this is not just m-audio issue.
Motu, too.

I used differnt apps but live4 was the only app who had this glithching.
It does seem to be Mac, especially Powerbook, issue.
Just like the Ableton's stuff admitted in this forum.

Now, I'm on my pcmcia soundcard, RME Mulitiface,
and having a great time without a single glitch.

I feel sorry for the newbies, who will definately buy the firewire soundcard to use live4.
There's a good chance that they will end up spending so much time doing THE RESEARCH.
The companies should let them notice about this issue.

If I was to choose firewire soundcard,
i can only say RME Fireface 800,
but that's still has alot of stability issue, too.
RME will always update useful drivers very often.

If this is true with the M-audios,
I ain't gonna buy their midi products, either.

BTW, I had the same logs that was posted here when I was with the 828mk2.
Had so many of them.

It only appeared when that dropouts happened.
Send to the Ableton and they told me that they're working on it,
which I think they really are.

But what I'm affraid is,
this same firewire issue has been going on from version 2.(or 3. I forgot)
with same problems.
Just look it up in the forum and you will be amazed how old the problem is.
Kinda felt sorry for , hmm , everyone including the companies.
No one know what's going on.
Felt little affaid for the computrized future.
It can get really messy.

I am thinking of ditching this maudio card until they get their driver issue sorted out.

I would never go with the usb.

I've seen articles saying firewires are better than the usb.
The store manager @ my favorite gear shop also told me that firewires are actually better.
BUT many people tell me pcmcia is better than that firewires.
It's the best and that's why great gears like protools use those pci slots.

This is what my friend told me.

He called up the dealer of the RME,
and they admited that the PCI (PCMCIA) sound cards are
actually better than the Firewire soundcards since the PCI is
directly connected with the motherboard.

Firewires, on the other hand, that thing will eat the CPU to transfer the
data and flow it to the PCI and then to the motherboard.
So no matter what you use, the sounds will always have to pass through the PCI bus which the fastest flow scores only up to 133mbps.
In that case, whether you use 400 firewire soundcards nor the 800 firewire soundcards, the max speed you'll ever get is that 133mbps since it will always pass that PCI.
Ofcourse, the PCI-only will be that same 133MBPS.

So that's why he chose the RME Multiface since it doesn't use the firewire's power to transefer that data to the PCI.
RME actually admited that PCI cards and Fireface800 has the same latency.
I kind of doubt that. PCI's are faster.
In a theory, yes, firewires could get faster using tons of mega power.

my gu in town says the multiface and the card type 2 with firewire connection( not using firewire as a means of connecting) will set me back around £480-500 max...

looking around on turnkey and DV, that kinda looks like a good bargain...

I didn't know RME had firewire connection + pcmcia card for multiface.
Are you sure it's RME ?
I hardly recommend to use the RME's original pcmcia card for the task.
As someone already mentioned some where,
it's worth the money.

better than 2gb of RAM.
Maybe better than the powerbook.
Okay, as good as getting a powerbook.

If I didn't even have the money,
I would definately get a part time job to earn it.
Or sell whatever I can.

no...its not a firewire connection...it only uses the firewire cable to connect to the i/o box..

is this not what you use to connect????

unfortunatly i cannot get more than 2gb ram in my powerbook....but i should not and will not need anymore than that....

I'd definitely recheck that price.......are you sure that's the price for the cardbus and the multiface??? Seems insanely cheap....hope for your sake it is as you say....

hello,
i just wanted to pipe in, and say i have had nothing but troubles with my set up.
g4 powerbook, firewire4/10, live 4.0.
so i just go out of the headphone out to the dj mixer on live shows, seems to have fixedthe problem for now, but i bought the damn set up to do live shows with my singer and sax player running them thru the souncard and live all the while tweeking them out.
any ways the latency was too much for the artist to use as they couldnt play in time, then i found out about all this bull shit with the drop outs , needless to say i am in debt to the music store that sold me the shit and i am not happy.

after reading this thread i am not sure what to do.
