whats about sending the signal to a return channel-> eq frequency/ies and sidechain the return channel? :)

Ableton could do with a crossover, that would sort the problem, in a rack.

Oh f*ck it, that's gonna be MFL.

Along with more cowbell, a production assistant, a light saber and some Ewoks.

it's gonna be so sweet I can taste it already :)

enable sidechain+eq...choose BandPass...
use 'listen' on the sidechain ...
adjust eq to pick out the frequency...
done.

BINGO!

honestly, I wouldn't play games if there wasn't a simple solution. Live's compressor was built to do exactly what you're looking for. same with the new Multiband Dynamics effects in Live 8 which does compression and expansion. not to mention just putting an EQ3 or EQ8 before a standard compressor.

Umm, didn't he mean he wanted to sidechain (duck) a certain frequency?

You'd still be ducking the entire spectrum, but triggering it from a specific frequency if you did it this way, no?
