Share your Live sets NOW and for free

Post by arturnowak » Thu Apr 30, 2009 1:36 pm

Before Ableton's sharing of sets goes out of beta, you can share your music already using Dropbox:

www.getdropbox.com

Dropbox works in background and automatically uploads your files. The main use is to sync your files between many computers (desktop at home and laptop for live playing, etc), but you can easily set up a private share and your files will be available to your collaborators musicians. 2 GB space for free, you get more if you invite other users (like I do right now :-) Check it out!

So....
I am very excited about the prospect of being able to collab with you knuckleheads on Ableton's site, my question is...

Are they going to charge for this?

I hope not!

I'll wait to see what Abes does, Dropbox might be cool, there is also Indabamusic.com , whhich feature some really cool contests to boot.

Yes, they have said they will. No word on pricing yet.
Consider the massive bandwidth and storage required to make it work.

Well, this is not a problem these days anymore. Cloud computing, you know? Commercial Dropbox gives you 50 GB for around 100 bucks per year. The real storage behind it is Amazon Simple Storage Service, which is very cheap ($0.180 per GB in Europe). If Ableton is using Amazon 3S, then they don't need to worry about bandwidth, because all data goes to Amazon's data centers anyway.

You can get 3 GB at Dropbox for free, so again, give it a try:

I have no use for this now, but I registered anyway, could be useful later.

So, remember, 2 GB space for free: www.getdropbox.com

That was just teasing, I'm glad to see it made you smile ;)

(Link edited, I have no use for 2BG really, so why extend my storage capacity?)
