This doesn't make much sense to me. Why would cracks fail after a time delay? If the crack is buggy, it will be buggy from the start - not after it works perfectly fine for a few months. No?
From what I know (from discussion with various audio software developers who use similar schemes) the crack checking is built in at all levels including livesets and addons and uses multiple systems as well as an online check (e.g. crc check, blacklists etc) so even if it works for a while installing an addon or opening a project from a different version can activate the copy protection. It's a neat system really - there are cracks around sure as people have said but none of the more recent ones are flawless so it weeds out the collectors who rarely really use it (and probably run less risk of activating the copy protection) from the people who use it regularly and end up buying it just to get a fully reliable version.

.......really interresting to read all the experienceses :D

I found some really funny Sunday morning posts......from different sources around.....

"It crashes upon start for me."

"I am getting a "This version only runs for 30 minutes and will now close" message after using it for well yeah obviously 30 minutes.

we have it trouble?"

"It defenitely does not work, try it again Dynamics!"

"Wow! This is great. Thanks!

Edit: Looks like it doesn't work. Thats too bad :/"

"my version work fine, but i cant save preset, like in demo mode!!! but no problem for saving a project!!!"

"Dynamics not work!"

"...... at me it stops after 30mins - sad =("

"Crashes with an empty project while I'm just sitting here staring at it. Literally doing nothing at all."

"everything works excepet it crashes really easily..."

should say it all....... :D

whats the point of this thread? of course they can hack live! i have cracks on my PC because i dont want to waste an unlock on it and i rarely make music on it but i do piddle around on it sometimes(when its hooked up) and ive had them nearly up to date and never had it quit working on me for longer than 5 minutes, and ive never lost work. my first copy of live was stolen, it would take a fool to drop 500$ on a music software they dont even know how to use IMO. the new trial period is great and will probably reduce pirates and increase sales. i think that is very forward thinking and more of what the internet needs.

BUT!

the most important thing to me is:
i pirate software, alot of software. but i also buy the software i like. and i wouldnt(stress that I WOULD NOT) buy software that i havnt used without any restrictions. im not gonna goto a store and try out a real synth just for the sales dude to be like OH NO DONT USE HALF OF THAT SHIT TRIAL ONLY, i would walk out. And, you cant return software, fuck that.

And, i think alot of this piracy business is overblown. i have tens of thousands of dollars of software i didnt buy. but i wouldnt buy that software under any conditions. so i really dont think the companies are out any money. i wouldnt buy it, so they didnt lose anything. i know thats a shitty justification but its true. and i might even buy it after i use it a while and see how awesome it is(if it is).

Why so angry everybody? I bought Live, I like it. So what if Joe Blowjob sitting next to me pirated the same thing and it works fine/doesn't work/whatever. None of my beeswax. I feel good having bought I product I like, but Joe over there doesn't need to justify to me why he's doing anything.

Most people are not against try before you buy by running a crack, if you do eventually buy - most don't because they are too greedy and cheap. If you have tens of thousands of pirated software on your HD, which you wouldn't buy, then surely you should delete it and save the HD space. Ableton Live now has a fully functional demo for 14 days, including the Suite instruments and therefore shouldn't require using a dodgy hack which will likely expire way before the demo anyway.

the problems are this ...
a) People wanting technical support for their crack - like I said before, this is like stealing a TV, then going back to the victim and asking them to give you the manual. People running cracks should learn how to be discrete and the brazen ones who come on here boasting about it, really can't complain if they are taken down by the authorities.

b) People profiting from using cracks. Running a crack as try before you buy on your own demo material is one thing. Recording studios running cracks and making fat profits off the back of paying customers, they deserve to be taken down by the banpiracy organizations and such and pay the 75k fine or get stung for more in court.

I think that legitimate, valid, paying customers only really get annoyed about the above 2 scenarios.

ok, i missed the support part i guess. that is ridiculous anyone would pirate software and ask for help. thats why you buy it, so you have help. btw i bought live7 suite so im all legal, and i meant downloaded and not currently possess because i did delete all but a few free ones that i didnt buy.

The cracked Ableton Live 8.0.1 Suite release has been said to work better than boxed versions.

Just a quick observation according to the torrent forums...

So the crackers not only cracked the software, they fixed some bugs too? That is amazing!

ShiteB3RD's version 8 crack adds OSC, dual monitor support, ichat, exports to .obj with texture channels and has been running solid since 2007.

A nice feat, considering that v8 didn't come out until this year...

"oh yeah, I bought the basic version. it doesn't include those"

"damn. why'd you buy it then? that sucks. let me know, I'll pass my crack on to you"

"sigh... nah that's alright. Thanks"

God forbid you don't have Analog and operator........::Jacking off motion::
