Live crashes when loading DJ set. Battery 3 problem?
Live crashes when loading DJ set. Battery 3 problem?
I can not open my DJ set project with my new MBP (2009 MBP with 4Gb ram and 2.4 Ghz processor). I was able to open and work on my DJ set in previous versions of Live with my previous MBP (4Gb ram, 2.3 Ghz processor). However, with my previous MBP and Live 7.0.12, Live would crash on opening the project if I did any significantly work-heavy operation while opening Live (such as opening itunes while opening Live). I attributed this to Battery 3's known instability in Live. When I disabled the plugins, my DJ set project would not crash while opening. However, now with my new MBP, I have not been able to open the project.
I have informed Live Support about this issue and included any files I thought might be helpful in solving my
problem. They were able to "flawlessly open my DJ set project (3.4 mb)". The crash log reads it is an issue with Battery 3. My DJ set does include 2 AU Battery 3 midi tracks. However, I have disabled all plugins and even uninstalled Battery 3 so I don't understand why Battery 3 would make Live crash.
After many hours spent trying to figure this out today, I still can't get my DJ set project to open. Heres what I have tried and failed:
- I removed the apparently unstable audio hijack program "Soundflower" because of Live Support's advice to do so.
- I have made sure my plugins are disabled in Live preferences.
- I have removed Battery 3 from my computer entirely (except for the Battery library and saved drum/sample kits).
- After Live still crashed, I tried reinstalling and authenticating the latest version of Battery 3.
- I also have tried enabling audio units and VSTs.
- I have searched google and the Native Instruments forum. I found nothing.
Live still crashes upon opening this particular project. It reads "Loading the Live set." The external HDs sound like they are working on loading the songs. Then, the hard drives silence, and Live crashes.
Any ideas/solutions/advice about this complex problem would be greatly appreciated. I have a gig Saturday and really need my set to open.
Thanks - WiKy

Re: Live crashes when loading DJ set. Battery 3 problem?
I had similar problems with Battery 3 crashing live a while back.
I was also given the advice by the Abes to get rid of Audio Hijack, but what did the trick for me was to move the Battery 3 cache file into the trash. Once I did that, the problem was sorted.
The problem did come back once or twice over the next few months, but again, I just trashed the cache folder, and all was right again. (I'm not at my computer right now, so i can't check the exact file path, and to be honest, I was never quite sure why this worked at all, but hope this works for you.)

Re: Live crashes when loading DJ set. Battery 3 problem?
I have old DJ sets that get this error message from Live:
"The document (name of session) is corrupt. [Event of unautomated parameter is not at 0.0]"
These have no 3rd party plugs, all strictly Ableton. Plus these are relatively simple DJ sessions.
Anyone know what this is all about?

Hi friends, you will not belive it but I have the same problem with ONE of my projects.
I use Live 6.11 and the problem is also with it. In details:
Project is only about 23MB large, live does not crash but is loading about 18 minutes for only
this specific project. No crsh information or report from live about a faulty VST, nothing.
But the worst is comming now. I boutht a complete new computer (PC) specially built for
music production, updated all programs I use, only live version is still the same, but the
result is that live do not want to open this specific project anymore. I let it load for about
1 hour! Nothing. Only a 25% use of live in the task manager with transfere rates in kilo-bytes.
I also checked hole net and could only find this here now.
Before I forget, I do not use Battery.
Well, hope there is anybody who can help us. Whe ever it will be, I will be thankfull.

Re: Live crashes when loading DJ set. Battery 3 problem?
I'm not sure if this will help, but I ran into something similar with Nuendo 2 and Absynth 4. All the plugins try to load on startup, regardless of whether they were used or not (i think live is the same way), and it kept hanging/crashing when it tried to load Absynth 4. I moved the plugin dll from the plugins folder and it started right up. Then I closed out, put the plugin dll back, and started again.
That fixed the problem for me, but again, that was a pretty different situation. Hope this sparks an "a ha!" moment for someone out there!

Thanx looprication. You are right, it must be something with an dll. I will check if I can firgure out which VST (dll) is a problem. I think as this happens only with one prject, it must be caused by a special combination of different instruments. We will see.
