I've built a very effective audio FX rack for recording vocals, using all live devices. It uses the Compressor, EQ8, Gate, Reverb & Delay, as a basic setup. The order is somewhat interchangeable. With those all firing together I get loud, punchy vocals that are easy to adjust for sitting well in the mix. Heavy compression is usually the main key here. I also frequently use the new Overdrive on vocals, as I tend to do industrial-style music/vocals, and it's been wonderful for that, from subtle driven vox sounds to complete nonsense noise.

God, I remember the days when I did all my vocal FX processing post-recording/performance, with CoolEdit...now to be able to seamlessly hear my whole FX chain in real-time still just makes me smile.

typical effects are distortion/saturation, chorusing/flanging/delays or other modulation FX, compression (vary from subtle to extreme according to need), vocoder (in Live 8 at least), eq and gating. All of which is available in Live, or you can use 3rd party FX, which sometimes gives more range. There are some preset vocal racks that you can adjust or add to in Live as well in the instrument rack > vocals.

How well your vocal recording
Step 1
Lead Vocals: When your voice, you must do that twice! I know that many people say that once done, but to me, twice! That means not simply to copy the first and that means you have 2 different images of the same version, with “dry”, meaning no EFX, Listen both through headphones.

Step 2
Trend monitoring speakers to share the sound of the voice, in order to melt, with the headset you will hear exactly how it sounds! Make sure every word fits in the first, when you hear the slightest bit difference word, change it and try to perfect, never less. To my sound twice as high, I duplicate the first and the second shot had I spent 2 each verse, you hear how it sounds strong.

Step 3
Ad-Libs: When the overlay of the ad-libs, then you must be in a different way to lead the singing. Ad-lids are essentially an add-on for the song, which means that they are the words that you stronger. Take the line “I love you very, you ad lib as” I-ov-oo-o-you “, May sound strange, but it really works, try it with imotion. , it is always better to use the pan function.

Step 4
I consider myself a panoramic road to the right and left, when I ad-libs. If the ad-libs, make sure the same words in the same time, otherwise your ad-libs truth and sound design “beginnerish”. Once successfully registered, ad-libs the left and right, double tracks, to the strengths, if the effect you are looking for.

Step 5
Once the two main ad lib, you can track more tracks ad lib means, what you choose. Make sure that it is characteristic of the tub in the middle or other titles from pan. Too many pots the same sound muffled and distorted!
