Do any of you use Live for looping on the fly on stage? I'm considering switching from a hardware looper and several hardware samplers to Live and a computer. The MBpro is way out of my price range at the moment. Could a Mini handle it?

Windows is rubbish for music production. That is a fact that has been established for so, so long.

the rubbish pc toshiba notebook 2.2intelDuo/4gbRam/7200rpmHd/esataDrives does everything excellent and i use only virtual instruments.together with fireaudio card FA-66 it`s a miracle on vista sp2x64.and all VSTi work.you shouldn`t listen to all the people say.i carry a mobile music studio around the world and no problems at all.my live 7.015 loves my studio.probably on a desktop you could do some better.

white macbook (the one with firewire 400)

# 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
# 4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x2GB
# 320GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
# SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
# Keyboard (English) / User's Guide

1274$ plus tax

you do not need some shithot video card for producing audio

i don't use firewire, i use a rig control 3 and an access virus snow
so all i needed was usb.

aluminum macbook
# 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
# 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
# 320GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
# SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
# None
# Backlit Keyboard (English) / User's Guide

1774$ plus taxes

this machine has yet to fail me, running live with multiple softsynths
and a live guitar input through guitar rig and a virus snow all
at the same time.

the only thing i could use is one more usb port, but I get by.

I just recently went through this same routine.
I ended up with a MBP 17" 2.66 ghz 4GB ram ect, I thought I would end up taking it back before the weekend was through, I couldn't fathom the expense.
It ain't happening.

This is by far the most enjoyable computer I have ever used.
Projects that would bottle neck on my PC are nothing on this machine. (granted an old Toshiba that was seriously beat and abused)

I have nothing against PC as long as I don't have to use them for audio.

Get a Mac.

I'm going through this decision now. I've been running my live rig on a mac mini, and am having some trouble:

Anyway, any thoughts on the macbook pro solid state drives? Is there an appreciable difference between the fastest regular internal drive available for the macbook pro and the solid state drives? I've seen some test cases online, but I was curious if there was a latency improvement.

I'd only use an intel or ocz drive and for the os only

I Intel has faster iops, ocz is better price/performance
