ibook 14" or powerbook 15" ?
I have to buy a laptop for my birthday...but i'm not sure...
An ibook 14" or a Powerbook 15"?
Now it seems that the differences in terms of power are:
ibook:
Bus 133Mhz
RAM 266Mhz
firewire 400
ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 32MB SDRAM DDR
pbook:
Bus 167Mhz
RAM 333Mhz
firewire 800
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 64MB SDRAM DDR
Slot PC card
The price:
ibook € 999,00
pbook € 1.999,00
i think i'll go for an ibook....(because of the $$$)
any suggest?
P.S :(i will run Live 4, Logic, Max/msp)

have to eh? gosh that's too bad
right now the difference between the 2 is nominal so the ibook isn't a bad way to go. but keep in mind that the powerbooks should be updated sometime very soon.
...which will probably mean they'll be more money. so the ibook may still be the way you want to go. you'll get good performance out of Logic and Max/MSP, acceptable performance out of Live. so for Live you'll have to bounce/resample/consolidate more often, which isn't the end of the world. some people appreciate the structure it imposes on them.

performance aside, keep in mind that the 14" iBook uses the same screen resolution as the 12"; 1024x768. the result is rather blurry and can get annoying after a period of time. if you don't need the slot then the 12" PowerBook is a really nice machine, very tiny and considerably less $ than the 15".

i am still saying ibook, and as a regular on both here at em411, I personally would trust em'ers opinions over most of the people on this board.
i'd wager most people on this board will try to talk you into going the pc route.

ive heard the Itab rumour for a year from so many different places i am starting to believe it... There was that rumour that apple bought 2 million touch screen lcds from a german distributor and the blueprints for a tablet mac had been floating around.. Someone even made a 3d model of the thing..
Apple being as innovative as they are it would not surprise me.. Plus, they could get away with making a tablet thicker so the g5's could cool..

apple wouldnt make a tablet because tablet pc's have been available for years now. its just not like them to follow trends like that.
and tablets really don't sell that well.
its definitely worth waiting at least a month to see what they roll out.
but if you need a machine now, get an ibook. keep it looking pretty, and sell it once the new machines are announced.

I'd wager you're an idiot
Seriously why in God's name is anyone going to suggest a PC notebook when the guy clearly stated he's going to be using LOGIC

firstly.. ejectorset... watch your step. "most of the people on this board" are going to take offense to what you just said. many would gather that you think the average live user is clueless. dFaX-01 wrote:ejectorset wrote:i am still saying ibook, and as a regular on both here at em411, I personally would trust em'ers opinions over most of the people on this board.

i agree with FaX-01 here... the word "Logic" is generally code for "nothing to see here, move along" for PC users.
even mentioning the posibility of the suggestion of a PC has nearly made FaX's eyes roll back into his head at least 540 degrees.
And with that in mind I'd actually suggest you wait 3-4 more weeks and see what exaclty will be available processor wise in the PB / iBook range.AdamJay wrote:firstly.. ejectorset... watch your step. I'd be majorly pissed if I bought an ibook next week only to find I could have bought a G5 model some 4-5 weeks later.
Secondly is a LAPTOP a necessity ?
I think the new G5 iMac would run Max/Msp, Logic and Live like a CHAMP myself.
Larger Cache / faster FSB / better processor and not likely to choke on OSX/TIGER when it's released.
