In-Built browser, more organised?

Post by Studio 2i » Mon Apr 21, 2008 7:28 pm

Maybe its just me and my methodical ways but I find it takes me ages to get organised using the in-built browser.
Always trying to find this and that, seem to spend more time perusing the browser than creating music! lol
Maybe its already the best way that it can be done?

Yes, for me it takes ages too :D I'm zooming and zooming :D I would like that "Plugin Favorites" and maybe even Color markers, as in OS X Finder, would appear. There MUST appear preview track slider to fast forward when prelistening long tracks.

yes, it's getting ridiculous with so much content

to do:

-separate instruments, audio fx, midi fx into their own tabs
-ability to reorganize bookmarks after they are created
-folders and sub-folders for bookmarks (?)
-more user browser tabs
-detatchable browser window(s) (unlimited number)

Yeah, it's not like there's no space for it.
Would be cool if there were diferent sets of icons we could use too, instead of the generic 1,2,3. One for samples, other for midi clips, instruments, effects, live clips, presets, etc.

I don't know how it would fit the physical space, but I would really like to see a bunch of tabs, where you can tag keywords, like:
-RACK
-INSTRUMENT
-EFFECT
-OPERATOR
-ANALOG
-etc...

And the search would update in realtime. Also, the current search is reallllly slow.............. who wants to wait 30 secs for it to find one keyword?

for example I keep my vst effects in a separate ---effects--- folder (so it is the first folder in the list)
browser1 goes to my ableton documents
browser2 goes to my samples
browser3 goes to my midi files

tags for files and plugins would be useful, or at least some kind of "marking"

would it be possible for us to use some third party program in the mean time and just drag and drop?

sure,

you can drag from explorer windows. I'd be interested if people have recommendations of other file browsers.

a benefit of 3rd party file management could be the possibility to hide .asd files completely (I know how to hide existing ones in windows explorer, but not to hide newly created ones automatically)
