The Engine Has Restarted!
Re: The Engine Has Restarted!
I would not sweat having creative block, it is part of the human experience and we all go through it. Often it can be our subconscious telling us that we need to reconnect or focus energies in other aspects of our lives to ultimately create the experiences and find the muse to draw creative energy from.
Now that the philosophical bullshit has been said, I am happy for you that you found your groove, best wishes for continued creativity and inspiration.

Re: The Engine Has Restarted!
i have been using renoise for the last week.. i have came up with 8 idea type of songs in it. the songs i came up with are all electronic but my plan is to remake the good ones using guitar and real drums. the only reason i came up with these songs is i was just messing around trying to figure the program out. im sure as soon as i totaly figure renoise out i will get bored of it and just end up staring at the screen.
i guess it doesn't matter i never end up doing anything with my music anyways.
its just to easy to get bored with the same damn melody over and over, and then trying to build something. i always end up thinking "this just sounds like some other shit that has already been done.."
if i wasn't my worst critic..
latley i have been thinking about just making a punk album.. not giving a shit if anything sounds like some one else's songs and just complete something.

i also fogot to mention what really kills my creativity is trying to mix the music..
i seriously suck at mixing. i can write a song a day but spend a month trying to get it sound right.
i fucking hate mixing.. im ok at mixing electronic music but when it comes to drums guitar and vocals everything sounds like a mess .i just want to write music and have some one else mix it.

The biggest reason why so many small businesses fail is that it is impossible for one person to be the CEO (visionary), the Management (making sure things are implemented) and the Employee (the worker bee).....nathannn wrote:i also fogot to mention what really kills my creativity is trying to mix the music..

The same with applies to music production, find your strengths a focus on them. If mixing is not one of them, so be it, that does not take anything away from your "talent" and creative potential, it just means that your skill may shine compositionally and that you need to find people who you can collaborate with, who may excel more in the mixing end......

Re: The Engine Has Restarted!
@nathan I can help you mix dude. It's my forte.
Re: The Engine Has Restarted!
It's something you pick up over time, I often go back to old songs and totally remix them to get them closer to how I wanted it to sound, or with what I've learnt since I last worked on it, changed it into something different.nathannn wrote:i also fogot to mention what really kills my creativity is trying to mix the music..

Rather than try and finish a song outright, just work on the writing part for a while, if you start running dry of ideas, then work on mixing what you've got and you'll probably start coming up with new ideas.
Personally, I get writer's block quite often, often referred to as 'the pub'.
Re: The Engine Has Restarted!
I agree with aisling, don't sweat the mixing if it isn't something you are good at. For me, Live is a music creation tool first, a performance tool second, and a mixing tool last. I try to get my mixes sounding as good as I can, but I don't labor over it because I realize I don't have the ears or technical skills of a sound engineer. I'm a musician, not a producer. If I can knock out some good songs and get them to sound decent, I'm happy. My plan is to get maybe an album's worth of tracks together and then find an inexpensive studio/engineer to help me get the mixing done right.

Just ordered the Suite Box. Booyah!
Re: The Engine Has Restarted!
Sweet!
I just pre-ordered the APC40 last night using that Musician's Friend gift certificate deal. I'm one step closer to being able to join in if and when an Ableton night happens in Austin.

^ yeah, sorry for slacking on that - my life has been pushed back by like 6 weeks!
Fortunately, Mrs. Neb is on the mend, and is now starting to drive around herself, which is a big step.

Hey, absolutely no worries. It's obviously been a very difficult time for you and I'm glad to hear that things are getting better.
Just make sure you keep me in the loop if you decide to start pulling this show together. I may or may not be able to perform, but I definitely want to go and participate in any way that I can.

Re: The Engine Has Restarted!
