sci fi reboots unsettle me.

they go back in time but the technology is more advanced.

termintor 4. is set in the future but before terminator 1, yet the robots can run around and a be aerobatic and what not.

Early review - GREAT movie! Wrath of Khan is still better! But it was really close. Loved it.

I also just came back...
Nice action movie for 12 year old kids but has nothing to do with Star Trek, very entertaining though if you like to have no space for your own imagination...
't seems though that that kind of movies are out of fashion anyway...
..i go make some music now to get my ears cleaned out (the only bad thing: the soundtrack! )

*The plot was positively moronic.

The writing was lazy. I mean, all kinds of new levels of lazy. We've seen it before. The entire last 2 seasons of Enterprise dealt with the same kind of story. Fail.

The science in Star Trek has always been fairly plausible. But using a Black Hole as the time travel mechanism is so many kinds of wrong and stupid it's hard to know where to begin. 8th grade science textbooks have a better understanding of what a black hole is and does than the writers of this movie. omfg. Star Trek usually has a worm hole or a temporal anomaly to explain time travel. There's a reason they've never used a black hole before. Because, um....oh fuck it. Black Hole indeed. Fuck you, asshole writers.

The coincidences in the story line will be the stuff of legend. Nero goes into a Black Hole and......uh,uh,uh....that Black Hole opens a door through time that magically happens to end up....uh uh uh....at the exact point in time where there's a young Spock and Kirk to kill? Really? Seriously? I mean, I was waiting for either young Spock or old Spock to rattle off the odds of that. Like 4,596,684,687,496,968,038,978,545,678,800 to 1. God, what a spectacular fail.

Nero is angry that Romulus has been destroyed. He holds the one guy accountable that actually made an attempt to stop the sun from going Super Nova: Spock. Eh. "You failed, Spock. Nice try. Second place for you. Here's a set of steak knives and, oh by the way, I'm going to destroy your entire planet and billions of Vulcans as well. Have a nice day." Painful. omfg, so painful. That's it? That's the best revenge story they could come up with? How about making Nero into some kind of terrorist, and doing a storyline that brings some sympathy and *killmenow* humanity to his plight? Star Trek at it's best dealt with current events and turned them into interesting future stories. The writers here have utterly and completely forgotten (or never bothered to learn) what made Star Trek....um....Star Trek.

The story of the Super Nova is truly pathetic. Wow. Just...wow. Okay, let's review: We've got a sun that's going to go Supernova and destroy a bunch of planets; including Romulus. Wouldn't, eh, the scientists of the Romulan empire have been watching and knowing about this for...eh....a really long time? In the movie it comes as a surprise, and a desperate attempt is made by Spock to stop it. Spock, of all people. WTF? The best pilot the Empire has for the job is a 150 year old Vulcan? omfg. Anyway, back to the Supernova. You mean to tell me that the Empire - and the entire fucking Federation, if called upon, didn't have the technology at hand to stop this sun from going Super Nova? Oh, FFS. I just knoooow there was a Next Generation episode that dealt with this successfully. Good Lord. And, ehhhhh, even if the sun couldn't be stopped from exploding, in reality you'd have about.....oh.....500 million years to relocate the citizens of Romulus to any one of a hundred other planets that are part of the Empire. Yet the movie makes it seem like the Super Nova took everyone by surprise. If that's the case, they all deserved to die the fucking nonces. Oh dear. Oh, dear, dear, dear me.

Coincidences. Kirk lands on an ice planet at the exact same location as an ice cave in which old Spock is hanging out? Oh my. And....(I luv this part).....Scotty also happens to be there?

Fail.

FAILFAILFAILFAILFAILFUCKINGFAIL.

lol. That's what was cool about Trek. You didn't really need a SOD pill.

The biggest fail about this film is that it completely erases the future Trek that we all know and love, and that no one even mentions that perhaps someone should try to go Back To The Future and prevent this from happening. Fail. In every time-travel Trek story (and there's been a lot of them, hasn't there), everyone knows that fucking with the past or future is a disaster that must be prevented. Here it's like...oh, cool. Yeah.

The movie was fun and loud and action packed. meh. There was none of that 'sense of wonder' you get with Trek, either. It wasn't epic at all.

Uhura was hot, I'll give it that.

I don't think it was meant to be epic. It was meant to be a fresh start, and with that in mind, it was about 80% character development and 20% plot. Compare that with the epic standard, Wrath of Khan, which was about 50% character-driven and 50% epic. But by then, you had 23 years to develop the characters that everyone already loved.

In this case, you needed an alternate reality to do a solid reboot. Going back to fix it wouldn't achieve that. You had to basically reintroduce 7-10 beloved characters in a new way, while remaining faithful to the originals. I think it succeeded very very well. Lots and lots of in-jokes (red-shirt getting offed in a horribly funny way, Sulu's fencing, Kirk ALWAYS losing his phaser, Spock's nerve grip, the miniskirts, Kirk chasing every miniskirt around, the crew already annoyed with Kirk's obnoxiously cocky behavior...right down to the way Kirk crosses his legs at the very end on the captain's chair) - You gotto admit, there was a ton of stuff in there that was true to old Trek. But now, with a breath of fresh air, the story can take off to a whole new level. I have no doubt the next movie will be tons better, just like X-Men2 was way WAY better than X-Men. Or Superman2. Or Spiderman2. Etc.

As for the holes in the storyline and the time travel, if you saw the credits, you'll see that about 90% of the mind-fuckers who work on Lost worked on this new movie. So the creative/insane/lazy time-travel crap is basically what these idiots eat for breakfast. They're simply regurgitating it for the sake of a story that needed to re-introduce the characters.
