Well..., It´s funny that I bought reason long time before live, and when I started with Live I used it as the audio part that reason missed. Now I don´t use reason anymore, but I can imagine myself working with the live session view and record at the same time via rewire with 2 monitors.

No third-party plugins are supported, but it can be ReWired. As with Reason, Record is a "closed system"

Same old backarseward props thinking.

i do think it might be an interesting product for some types of users.

being a closed system with the integration of reason makes it appealing to people on low budgets who are already reason users with older computers. i guess. nothing wrong with that.

I have to agree. I remember reading an interview with underworld many years back, I was rather impressed how they made use of their "lo-fi" equipment the time.....Then the "stardom" came and the big $$$ money for the better gear.

i don't think it's backwards, it is appealing to people owning old / lame computers... on lower budgets.

a closed system has the advantage of being dead, dead stable... and mega CPU friendly... how often did you heard of reason crashing?

i mean i am everything but happy with Live8's performance, regarding the CPU, even it is all real time and blah. blah... the performance of 8.0.2 is still piss poor.

desperate rationalization. "let's go for that market segment of people that have no money, we'll make a killing!!" that makes no sense whatsoever.

runs great on my machine.

Reason is a niche audience. I could see NI adding Reaktor to Reason, make your own rack devices. that would make it more on the level with Live as far as total custom user tweakability.

I wrote it was a 'niche audience.'
and it could only compare to Live 'as far as total custom user tweakability.' they have card they can play with Reaktor.

Live is also a niche audience. A growing niche audience and with the addition of many DAW centric features and functions since V4 and especially in V7 and 8, but not a mainstream product. And aligning themselves with other niche markets such as cycling 74 max/msp to create the ubernerd of software is a very cunning plan !!

no worries, just talking shop.

I'm not a Reason user, so all the talk on the new feature is pretty much "meh" for me. although it takes away my main gripe about Reason, as a guitar oriented DAW user it's worthless to me. never liked the workflow in it. YMMV.

I don't see it as a niche audience, but I don't use other DAWs.

what do the others do that Live 8 doesn't? I mean big obvious things that make it niche? curious...

Live's niche audience is live performance artists and DJs and it has it's own major niche feature in Session View. This is what I meant more so than Live being an abstract, non conventional tool. Niche is a good way.

For the rest - not too much is lacking, some of the more advanced audio and MIDI editing features that if you had not had exposure to before you probably wouldn't miss or not much at least.

it has a niche audience because it pretty much does what all the other DAWs do and it has its own unique sequencing mode?

doesn't make sense.
