deleting unused recorded files in Live...

Post by blanketship » Sat Jul 30, 2005 9:04 pm

what i mean is lets say you record a 3 minute guitar track and you cut up maybe three loops out of it...is there a way then you can delete the rest of the file so you can save hard drive room. i understand you can save the "clips" but Live still needs the original file to reference. in Pro Tools you can always clear selected off the drive and only keep what you need. anyone know?
thanks

What you want to do is bring your clip to arrangement view, split it where you need, consolidate the part you want to keep, delete the parts you don't need and save your live a s self contained once you only have parts you need to keep. When you'll exit live, it will ask you if you want to erase unused recorded files, say yes (make sure you really saved self contained with all needed files first !). I would suggest you record directly in arrange view, otherwise you'll have to delete the clips from session view.
Seems complicated but practice a little and it's quick and sure.
If anyone has faster way please correct me.

Hope that helps,
amo

I usually just hit "crop sample" whether I cropped it or not it will save as a new file called Audio-0001 or whatever under Cropped samples and then you can use that and delete the original file. Just find that cropped file in the browser and replace it.

Really good, and I'm glad you did because that's something that's been bothering me.
