pointless. .It seems less a pain in the ass than the other dongles, but its still pointless. The honest users will jump through hoops, and the pirates will just bypass it anyway.
Well done pointy haired CIO, youre an idiot.

it will probably keep the pirates out for a few months (enough for the first batch of rabid propellerheads freaks to buy) and offering online activation as well if you prefer not to have the key at a particular time, is more flexible than Cubase or Protools etc, but it's rare to see a company who had challenge and response or just serial number copy protection moving up to a dongle, even in this more flexible format, for years, software companies have been moving away from it.

they would have been so much better off making an upgrade to reason with all those resources.
more instruments, more FX and the ability to use any reason device as an individual plugin within other DAW's without using the full rewire system.
a really cool new instrument like a 24 or 48 part drum sampler to replace redrum or some kind of experimental FX and modulation, maybe a sample scratch or turntable/deck type instrument for beat juggling samples and loops in a new sort of way.
these types of things would have had me wanting a reason update badly,
anyone using reason who really wants audio has already moved on into rewire territory a long time ago, 64 channels of audio? I'm running DP which is unlimited except for your computers limits and with 100 times more recording, creating and editing features than they will ever catch up with.
the props blew it badly in my opinion.

I kind of think it's interesting, but only to people really into Reason already. And if that's the case, why not just add these features directly to Reason and release it as a new update?
I have to admit I think the SSL thing is kind of funny. They tout that it's a super easy to use recording app, and then include a complex mixer with it?

I am still fond of Reason 4 for a lot of things, but I won't even consider something that uses a dongle.
If Ableton went to that...might finally chill my fanaticism enough to stop at that version. Something new will come out.
Although I will say...for all the things that annoy the crap out of me that Ableton has done with Live (don't get me started) it's STILL my numero uno tool for music production since 2002 or -3 or whenever I started using it.
Live 9.1 <> occasionally Reason 4.0.1 <> Reaper.latest! <> Windows 7 on a bespoke Intel Q6600 <> ASUS P5E <> 8GB RAM, M-Audio Delta 2496 and that's it.

great idea, this is always what i wanted for live, i wonder why they dont make these dongles with a female end on the back so you dont lose a usb port.

Record looks like one of the worst POS programs I've ever seen - the built in POD does it for me.
I await seeing this being picked up by guitar teachers and 14 year old metal fans across the country.

So basically it let's you use the program everywhere to record and save stuff. But you can only open projects with either the hardware USB ignition key or a sort of internet user account. To be honest I think it's great. I means your software licence is like a password you use to 'log in' to the application. That's kind of cool IMO.
Just not to sure about how this might work for Ableton products.

Demo Mode
If you have neither the Ignition Key nor is able to use Internet Authorization, you can launch the program and select "Run in Demo Mode". In Demo Mode, you can work without time restrictions - and even save your creations to disk. That's right. You can SAVE in Demo Mode. The only thing you can't do without authorizing Record using the Key or over the Internet, is to open your saved files.
THAT'S STUPID! Ok so i'm having a gig and i forgot my usb. Oh well. what to do. i can not open my reasonset so i have to make it from scratch... stupid... mutch better to be unable to save..
